Joshua (joshcoop) | 7 comments Hi there,

I am just curious as to what you guys have found the best places to purchase used true crime books. I typically use Amazon or HPB, but I'm wondering if there is a hidden treasure out there that I don't know of.

Thank you,
Josh

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Local used-book stores and indoor flea markets are worth perusing. You have to have some time to visit repeatedly and crawl through whatever they've got, and not be allergic to old books and dust!

For online books try http://www.addall.com. You put in the name of the book and it searches for the best price online.

Dixie | 23 comments I've been a member of Paperback Swap (www.paperbackswap.com) for 9 years now and recommend it highly. You swap out paperback or hardback books you're finished with for ones you want, paying postage when yours ship to another member. I have the $20 year yearly membership and can put up to 500 books on my wish list. It's a cheaper way for me to feed my book reading addiction. ;)

Fishface | 18849 comments I use addALL.com, Amazon of course, and the inter-library loan system. And I go to King's Bookstore in Detroit, Aunt Agatha's in Ann Arbor, and the true-crime section at Carol's Paperbacks Plus in Waterford.

Oh, and here: http://www.cliffordelmerbooks.com/?pa...

They carry NOTHING but TC.

Fishface | 18849 comments I'm also glad to know you can swap hardcovers at paperbackswap! I order one used paperback after another from Amazon only to find out I've been mailed a hardcover. Then they're much harder to shift than the paperbacks...

Koren (koren56) | 1601 comments I also use paperbackswap.com. TC is scarce around here but I check garage sales and used book sales for 25 and 50 cent books to swap. I check out the 'most requested' list so I can get a feel of what people are looking for and check out my friends requests so I can look for them. Often I have found a cheap book at a sale and found out it had a lot of requests on paperbackswap.

Joshua (joshcoop) | 7 comments I went into Savers yesterday for the first time and was really really surprised by their selection and how organized it was!!! I snatched up 7 books (mostly hardcover!!) and paid $14!! 6 of the 7 were true crime. I will definitely make that a regular stop on my quest for books!!

message 13: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18849 comments I've never heard of Savers. Is it a used bookstore?

message 14: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (joshcoop) | 7 comments No, it's like a Goodwill! But I have always found the books at GW to be so scattered and unorganized...Savers was much more in order!

The Goodwill near me has a ton of books, and a book sale on Wednesdays, but it is also very disorganized.

The various thrift stores are better organized but a smaller selection.

message 17: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (joshcoop) | 7 comments Yea, the GW stores by me have a lot of books too, but they are SUCH a mess!!! I was just there a few days ago and looked at every single book and found just ONE TC book!! I wish they would organize it better!!

message 18: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18849 comments Even King's Bookstore finally got its feces aggregated so you can find what you want (usually) in their TC section. But I still rely heavily on my superior browsing skills.

Joshua (joshcoop) | 7 comments I have been meaning to write you, Fishface!!! THANK YOU very much for the inter-library loan idea. I had never heard of that in my life!!! WOW! I was blown away by how much I found on there!! I think I have 5 (so far) books shopping to my local library as we speak!!! And that was just the first five I searched for!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! When you suggested it on here, I was like WTF is that??? I Googled it and was "ordering" books that night. So amazing!! Thank again!

Fishface | 18849 comments Thank my buddy from work, who taught me! I was astounded when I learned this trick.
