Finally someone wants to read Age of Iron with me :) I'd be good for that one.

Emma I'd definitely read The Archived or
Age of Iron or
Cinder
The others I have either read already or don't fancy them !
The Girl with All the Gifts is fantastic by the way..

Samir (royceblackwater) | 842 comments I'm interested in Age of Iron. I just hope I'll manage to squeeze it in my schedule...

Good to know on the girl with all the gifts.

Since we have a second and third for AOI I'll set it up and we'll go with that.

So it looks like The Thorn of Emberlain isn't coming out on September 22nd which frees me up a bit.

Any interest in doing The Dragon Engine

as a standalone and if it's good potentially going right into the sequel which comes out September 6th

Twilight of the Dragons

What honestly turned me onto doing this was bookwraith's review

If J.R.R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin had gotten together to write a grimdark interpretation of The Hobbit, The Dragon Engine would have been what they came up with. Centered upon a quest to dwarven halls filled with mounds of gold and once inhabited by mighty dragons, it is a tale filled with pulse pounding combat, explicit sex, cringe worthy torture, and plenty of vulgar language. Literally, it is a story that gets your attention the simple, old-fashioned way.

There's more below but that description is pretty much a GrimDark Fantasy lovers version of porn.

Since I bailed on The Prince of Nothing series due to not liking it I have some open slots. I'd be willing to do one of these starting Nov 15 and a second starting Dec 15th. These are all first books in a series that can become a series read if we like them but for now only a single book commitment.

Low Town
The Demon King
Half a King
Hyperion
The Garden of Stones
Empire in Black and Gold
Acacia: The War with the Mein
The Fifth Season

Let me know which book and which month.

I'm only on chapter two of Prince of Nothing so if I bail on the series after this book, I will try to join in after others decide.

message 63: by Emma (new)

Emma I've read some of these but one I have to read is The Demon King.
Low town, Half a King and the Fifth Season are all great too!

We'll do Hyperion one of the months and Demon King the other and if others join great.

I scheduled Hyperion for Nov and Demon for Dec simply because I know a few people will be more likely to join Demon in Dec and they want to.

Emma Ok. Here is a short list of books which are either first in series or standalone.Smiler's Fair this is leaning towards Grimdark

Ink and Bone

The Waking Fire

Sorcerer to the Crown

And Walk on Earth a Stranger this is a YA historical fantasy blend

Company Town this is fantasy- sci Fi

If anyone wants to read these in the next 6 weeks or so, please let me know and I can set up a thread.

message 72: by Dani (new)

Dani | 577 comments Very cool suggestions...

... which totally bums me out because I'm (over)committed well into the new year so there's no way I could do any of them so soon.

Going to sulk into a corner now :-(

Daniel (Mihasi) A while ago we were talking about starting a BR of Uprooted in december. If I'm not mistaken, Dani, Aristea, Scott and Angela were interested at the time.

Are you guys still up for it? What do you think about 2 december as a start date?

I've set you up a folder in Standalones for this.

message 80: by Dani (new)

Dani | 577 comments Honestly, I forgot all about this. I'd still like to read it some time as it's on my tbr pile but I already planned to continue the Riyria Revelations and read The Golem and the Jinni in December.

Emma Anyone up for The Waking Fire? I was thinking of starting either 5 or 12 December if there is interest? I'm just reading Blood Song by this author and I'm impressed. I always thought The Waking Fire sounded more my taste than Blood Song, so now I'm keener to read it!

Sorry Daniel, I can't fit it in next month. If there isn't enough interest I can look to read the book in January?

There's a thread for uprooted starting soon. I'd love to do that and The Waking Fire but cannot take anything else on this year.

The 12th will give me more time to read because I'll be a smidge less busy, but I can make the 5th work for sure. Although based on our last buddy read, you two will have it finished looooong before I will either way, so it doesn't matter much haha.

I will post it for 12 December and pace myself when reading it. There's no point in rushing through with A buddy read or you don't get the discussion and book chat!
