As July is coming to a close, share your favourite book you read this month!

Try to choose just one book and say something about it. If you want to list all the books you read this month, you can visit the "What are you reading in July" discussion instead.

I could pick the Malazan book I've read month after month so I'll instead pick Beyond Redemption which was a terrific surprise. If you like GrimDark it's a must.

I agree - I would just pick whatever Malazan book we read month after month so instead I will choose The Thousand Names. Really fun military fantasy which is one of my favourite sub-genres of fantasy.

Seán | 602 comments It's been mostly Riyria for me this month, but I have to go with Red Seas Under Red Skies which I finished at the start of the month. Lynch's constant pace and fantastic world-building is just too impressive to not mention here. I absolutely adore the Reminiscence chapters which work as short-story interludes between the action and really flesh out the world as a whole.

I'll honourably mention Michael Sullivan's series for being an addictive and exciting read, but Lynch just has more of everything, if I'm to compare the two. I actually think that Hadrian and Royce are as well written, if even slightly better than, Jean and Locke, but as a whole I prefer the extra depth that Lynch has in his writing.

You read some awesome books this month! I love the Gentleman Bastard Sequence.

Solseit | 1516 comments For me is Malice by far the best I read this month but it was a tough pick - and possibly because it is the one I have recently finished!

Tracey the Lizard Queen | 117 comments I just finished Herald of the Storm, got to be one of my top reads of the year! Can't recommend it enough!

Both of these are on my to-read list and it looks like I should be making time for them as soon as I get past all my other committed buddy reads!

Thanks Tracey! I have added the book on my (insanely growing) list but I always love suggestions - so far I have not been disappointed by the suggestions!

Like Jenna, both of these are already on my TBR. Great to hear you enjoyed them.

For me best book of the month was Veil of the Deserters. I'm really enjoying the characters Salyards has created.

I really need to get to this book too.

message 14: by Eli (new)

Eli Adelholm (eliadelholm) Damn, this is a hard one. Looking back I have read 16(!) books this month, and among those are 6 books that I've rated 5 stars.

If I can choose only one, I would have to go with Assassin's Apprentice. I can't believe it took me so long to start reading this series, having had Robin Hobb on my to read list for ages. I actually cried at one point doing that book, which I haven't done for any other book I've read in a very long time.

Glad you liked it so much! The whole series is one of my favourites now and I'm not even halfway through (starting book 5 soon).

message 17: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5953 comments Definitely Age of Myth

message 18: by Solseit (new)

Solseit | 1516 comments I really want to start that series (started with the Age of Myth) but I want to do it with a bit more sense and start the series before and finish that one - I am so glad so many people had a blast while reading the Age of Myth though!

Jarek "the Mistborn" Dąbrowski (jarekthemistborn) | 408 comments I would have to go with the riyria revelations as a whole. I read 5 out of 6 in July and Ian half way through the last one. Amazing series

message 20: by Solseit (new)

Solseit | 1516 comments This is why it is so difficult to make choices as to what to read - the Riyria Revelations is a series I really want to read (and I already bought the first one but starting that would mess up my schedule right now so... I hope to start later this month!)
