that might be a good idea, going to have to get a new library card first but lets just say that the ones who work at my local library aren't very friendly, so when I do that I'll just see about getten it though OverDrive, or I could just buy it from Amazon

I've had books like that before, especially when reading the kindle version. I always assumed it was due to formatting conflicts as the ARCs sent for Kindle usually aren't yet formatted properly for Kindle. Also, sometimes there are editor comments and marks as it's an earlier version. Some listings state that the review copy is a galley and not an ARC, but I think most just aren't formatted yet for the reader software. When I signed up for NetGalley, I read that typically only the Adobe digital edition is correctly formatted.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments The link for the review seems to be broken, Karen :(

Meanwhile, I am having nowhere near as much luck with the challenge this month as last. I have a bunch of library books I need to finish and return first. Eep!

This wasn't even on my schedule for the month, but the audiobook became available from the library, so I listened to it right away. Very good.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I've gotten through a couple of books this month, but mostly because of DNF and not rating them here on Goodreads, which is why I haven't been posting a lot of reviews here.

Hoping the next one I pick up is a bit better! :)

Good luck on your requests, Megan. I'm "curious" to know whether or not you'll get approved. :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) Finish a book and add two more right? Seems that's the way I always end up on NetGalley.

Just added Curious Minds (Knight and Moon, #1) by Janet Evanovich and Locked and Loaded (U.S. Marshals, #5) by Mandy Baxter

Protege by Lydia Michaels --> 3★ review thisaway

Very psychological BDSM-ish erotica. I had some problems with it but it's an interesting take on what has become a run-of-the-mill plot.

message 80: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I have a question for you guys.

I got Monstress, Vol. 1 Awakening by Marjorie M. Liu from Netgalley and they divided the volume up into 6 parts (which really wreaked havoc on my feedback ratio, BTW) and I plan to shelve and review the volume here, because I don't like to shelve issues. Do you think Netgalley will mind having the same full review posted for all 6 parts or should I make a little comment about each individual part for that website?

message 81: by Lara (new)

Lara | 676 comments I just read the book from the library--it was published as a single volume. So, I suspect it's fine to provide an overall review, but they might like one or two sentences about each section as well.

Did you get the book as the serial, or request it as a single book? If the latter, then their sending it as multiple sections would be annoying.

It was a "read now" and listed as 6 parts, but I just downloaded them all before getting started. Didn't think at the time about how I would review them though.

Hell Divers (The Hell Divers Trilogy #1) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

One more down. I made a concerted effort this week to get through a few books. This one is pretty dark and took me a while as I wasn't in the place for that world.

Lara | 676 comments Joanne - is from Canada wrote: "It was a "read now" and listed as 6 parts, but I just downloaded them all before getting started. Didn't think at the time about how I would review them though."

I just finished a combined serial on NG that originally had 16 parts. The second 'season' has been available in individual segments and I have been debating getting them. Thinking about reviewing a serial by each part now seems tedious though. After all, we generally review books, not individual chapters.

Finally posted my review of Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent .
Absolutely brilliant book and one I'd definitely recommend (although it's not on NetGalley anymore)

I also received a sample of John Grisham's latest The Whistler by John Grisham and posted a review to NetGalley.

Unfortunately I've added 5 books so far this month so my ratio has dipped below 70%

message 90: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Just started The Lost Ones by Vena Cork ,and I'm already having problems with it, still on the first page and I'm seen and trying to read sentences that don't make sense and ones that just run together.so much so that you can't tell where one word starts and the next one ends, example:Afterwordsshe'd felt guilty. I know it's an ARC but still shouldn't some one check for stuff like this .

message 91: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments Yeah, I've gotten a couple like that, Elizabeth. Luckily, it's not often. But I figured (hoped) they'd be doing their editing afterwards.

Elizabeth Connie N. wrote: "Yeah, I've gotten a couple like that, Elizabeth. Luckily, it's not often. But I figured (hoped) they'd be doing their editing afterwards."

Unfortunately that's not the case, I've gotten a few like this too, but when I went and got the actual copy of the book the same mistakes that was and were in the ARC was in the actual book, I'm going to try and read some more of the book, but those mistakes are giving me a headache, there's just way too many of them and it's really hard to read the story

message 95: by Nicole (last edited Aug 16, 2016 04:20PM) (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments On Kazen's recommendation, I think That Potent Alchemy (Treading the Boards, #3) by Tess Bowery is one of the first new books I have picked up this month.

Clancy of the Undertow by Christopher Currie is the only other one, an LGBTI book set in Queensland, Australia. I'm always interested in seeing books set over here!

Reviews for this month so far:

★★★★ for The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

★★★ for A Kind of Justice by Renee James https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 96: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Had to DNF The Lost Ones by Vena Cork The Lost Ones, just way too many run together words , which made it very hard to read.will differently not be picking this up as an actual book when it comes out.
