In August we will be reading the Fantasy award winner, Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances, as a group. Have you read any of the other nominees for the Fantasy award? Which have you read and what did you think? Did you think it deserved to be nominated? Which was your favorite? Do you plan to read any of them in the future? Discuss here!

The only one I've read from the nominees is A Darker Shade of Magic, which I really liked. I look forward to reading book 2 soon.

Kirsten (kmcripn) The only one I've read is THE BURIED GIANT, which I loved.

Many of the others are on my TBR. I especially like Patricia Briggs, though I do prefer Mercy to the Alpha & Omega series.

Janina (sylarana) | 692 comments I've read The Skull Throne and Vision of Silver... While I love both series, both books were my last favorite parts of the two series.
I didn't like A darker shade of magic much.
I'm really interested in The Fifth Season and have heard great things about the Fool 's series. The Red Queen one is another that I plan to read soon...

Red Queen was very popular, but I didn't care for it. I won't continue on with the series. I felt that all of the "twists" were expected and it didn't really have anything new to offer. I look forward to seeing what you think of it though.

Kirsten - I enjoy the Mercy series too. I haven't tried out the Alpha and Omega series yet. It never really seems to grab me enough to add to my TBR. I'm not sure why.

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments I read Burned Burned (Fever, #7) by Karen Marie Moning because it is part of the Fever series (which I loved). It isn't the same for me after part 5 though. I felt that when it switched to Dani as POV, it really was the start of a new series. Anyway, I have come to far, not to conintue with these.

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments I read The Providence of Fire, am currently reading the final book in this series. It's a good series, but the author has a little too much going on.

There are quite a few books from that list on my TBR, but I'm waiting for their series to be completed.

Paula S (paula_s) | 36 comments I loved A Darker Shade of Magic and definitely want to read the sequels.

I'm also interested in The Aeronaut's Windlass, The Buried Giant and The Fifth Season. All authors I've either read and enjoyed or heard a lot of good things about.

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments I've read seven of the books on the list, and I have library holds on several others. Fantasty and Scifi are my go-to genres.

My favorite nominee was Vision in Silver. I really love this series. The world building is simply fantastic. I typically blow through each book in a day or two.

I also loved The Aeronaut's Windlass, A Darker Shade of Magic and The Fifth Season. They are all highly imaginative and full of adventure.

Magic Shifts was great, but definitely not the best of the series. This felt very much like a transitional book in preparation to take us through the final stage of the series. It has been a wonderful ride and I am confident that the final books will be wonderful.

Dead Heat was a disappointment, but I am getting used to that with Patricia Briggs. Her books seem to have shifted emphasis from action to overly emotional. Sad.

As for Burned, egads. Total crap. And a crying shame since the original Dark Fever series was excellent on its own with a complete plot arc that was well laid out. Now, it feels like the author thought she had an idea, only she didn't. Or she changed her mind. Rather than writing a solid story, she had given readers fragments of an abandoned concept combined a re-hashing of the fan favorite Barron/Mac relationship. Only, they feel like caricatures without purpose other than to pander to the fans. I think I am done with K.M.M. She has totally lost her credibility with me.

I already own Boundary Crossed and The Invasion of the Tearling. I am just trying to work them into my reading schedule.

And there are a few others that I know I will read eventually.
