This is great. I remember talking to you about this book last year. Count of Monte Cristo was my first "I feel like an adult" book, but I haven't read it 14 times (not at 1200+ pages).

Friendly reminder that this is our spoiler-free thread. If you're ready to talk spoilers, feel free to head on over to the spoilers thread.
Who is joining in this read? Will it be your first time reading or is this a reread? Why do you think this remains a popular book club selection?

This. I think that it gets chosen often because it's short. ;)
But it deserves to be read and reread! There's a lot to ponder and discuss.

The audio that is narrated by the author is particularly illuminating if you can find it. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

I learned that in the years following publication, until Judy-Lynn del Rey restored it 1979, this was quietly bowdlerized to the point of seventy-five instances of censorship. Ironic. And, of course, that means you want to pay attention to the edition you're reading. Especially if you want one "with all the damns and hells back in place" as Bradbury said.

So pleased to join in.
From what I've read so far, it seems it has only become more relevant over the decades...

This book has been chosen 4 times in 4 years by this group. That's an amazing compliment to the author, who wrote this on a pay-per-use typewriter in a library's basement.
