The idea of spending your life in one room is truly scary to me.

Ooh, good choice, Blagica! I was going to nominate a different book but now I'm going to second Room. I totally agree that being trapped in a room is a scary prospect.

"Penetrating and powerful, as personal as The Diary Of Anne Frank, Night awakens the shocking memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it the unforgettable message that this horror must never be allowed to happen again. "

I second Pet Cemetery! :) I haven't read a King book yet, and they're usually pretty scary or suspenseful. This is the only one I probably will read of his. And I've been meaning to read it since middle school lol.
I LOVE this month's theme. I'm really excited regardless of the results. :)

* Actually they are all quite obvious. I only need a connection to Northanger Abbey. Can you state a connection Amelia? It doesn't have to be something really obvious :)

We're entering the last summer month. I hope everyone has had great vacations. We're ready to begin nominating for October 2016 group read! The theme of the month is Scare!
Please re..."I loved ROOM, but I don't think it qualifies as scary; heart wrentching yes, but not really scary in the October sense of the word.

It's the most recent winner of the Bram Stoker Award and it has an accessible page count 286.

I'll third this nomination!

I think this sounds very interesting so I will second this nomination

I second this one, already on my TBR list!

the beginning of "vampiric elements" in novel for the first time.
Which else can be more creepy?

I second Northanger Abbey. Still wondering why I never read this one :-)

There isn't really given a connection to the theme. Would you like to give one Agnieszka? I will count it as your nimunation :)

It doesn't have to, the important thing is the connection each state :) It can be any connection really.
Thank you for your nomination! :)

Re: Northanger Abbey. The story focuses on a girl who's fond of gothic horror novels and begins to see a connection between the plots of those novels and the mansion she's visiting.

Here are some short rules for nominating books:
~ Each person can nominate 1 book.
~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.
~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.
~ Please include the name of the book and the author or link to the book.
~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.
~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.
~ When nominating, please state a connection to the theme.
~ You cannot nominate a book which has previously been a group read. Past buddy reads are fine. (See Group Reads in the bookshelf)
This thread will be closed by August 25th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose the ten most nominated. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.
