GRRM is telling folks the "Wild Cards" superhero anthology series he edits is now in development for TV:

'Game of Thrones' Author Readying Superhero Show for TV (Hollywood Reporter)

"Wild Cards" is a shared-universe multi-author series of anthologies. There are also some graphic novels. (We had a discussion of the first anthology in the series back in the Mesozoic.)

In obviously unrelated news, latest delay in publication of "The Winds of Winter" will be announced in 3... 2... 1...

Michael | 152 comments I've never had any interest in the GoT television series (I was turned off by the first book in the series when I read it years ago). Wild Cards. on the other hand, I would love to see done well for TV.

Silvana (silvaubrey) Wild Cards bored me alot even though I only read one or two novellas. I wish it were Tuf Voyaging instead being adapted to TV. Or Fevre Dream.

message 4: by Jim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 2369 comments I like the Wild Cards universe. A lot of very good writers came up with some interesting altered people. Lots of fun. It would be great to see, if it's well done & the tech is now there to do it.

They're doing a lot of fun super hero movies. Cracked.com recently posted that 2018 is going to crash them since about 40 are scheduled for that year - 20 coming out within a week of each other.

I would love to see an adaptation of Fevre Dream! Maybe not a TV show but rather a movie, though.

That's 40 blockbusters. I counted 8 superhero movies, which admittedly is a lot but still reasonable if they are not too close apart. I know I'll problably have to get out more that year :)

I think in large part its a combination of the cost/capabilities of CGI these days, and the larger number of venues for "TV series" (traditional broadcast, cable channels, and streaming services) opening more and more opportunities.
