Sooz (P.Turners Book Blog) (soozpturner) | 3 comments Good Morning!

I'm Sooz, 29 and currently living in Melbourne, Australia but originally from the UK (Nottingham, but based in Bradford)

Was introduced to the genre through the young adult series; Point Crime. Then upgraded to Val McDermid as a teenager, before branching out into other crime authors such as Peter James.

I'm more partial to UK crime fiction, as it tends to be a little more on the grittier side - however open to all of the genre.

Looking forward to recommendations outside my comfort zone!

I've just ordered 12 crime books - most of them ones I have heard of but haven't read yet.

Excited to share them with you all!

Hi Sooz,

Welcome to the group. One of my favorite gritty, non-US writers is Stuart Neville. I particularly liked The Ghosts of Belfast, which I think is called something else in the UK. It's got the usual litany of Irish problems -- the Troubles, drinking, the church, etc. -- but some nicely fleshed out and nasty characters who rip at your guts. If you haven't read it, you might like it. Lots of grit.
