This would've been pre-2000. It may be YA, but I can't remember. Also possibly could've been SciFi but I don't think so.

There was a male character named Siddhartha but went by Sid or Sidd. The main character was a female (teenaged, I think) who was friends with him and possibly in love with him.

Ha! That's one of the ones that one of my friends suggested too, but it's too new.

Pratidwandi has a 19 year old character named Siddhartha. The title translates as "The Adversary."

What country/region is it set in, and what time period?

This was modern American.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Did the story relate to Buddhism in anyway, besides the boy's name?
Anything about the cover?

Nope, no Buddhism. I don't recall the cover. I *think* the boys' parents were hippies and he went by Sid as a way to rebel against them, but I'm not positive.

The name was a quick fact dropped in the beginning of the book when they were describing the character. Like, "I have this friend, his name is Sid, short for Siddhartha, he's 16" or something like that. It wasn't a major plot point.
