I was wondering if there is any way to add an outside image or photo to our author blogs? I do not know if it is allowed or even how to do it. Can anyone help?

Eric Westfall (eawestfall) | 195 comments Yes, it's okay. I've used that feature to post an image of my book covers as a "reveal."

First you upload your image to a hosting site. I use Photobucket, but there are others. The image needs to be in a 1:1.5 (maybe 1:1.6) ratio, i.e., if the image is 300 pixels wide, the height needs to be 450 (1:1.5) or 480 (1:1.6). 600 wide x 900 tall, etc.

At Photobucket, when you have the full image on the screen (not just the little thumbnail of all your images), you right-click, and off to the side you'll see some URLs for the location. Click the "copy" one and it'll go into memory.

[Caveat: It's been more than a year since I've done this, but I think this is fairly accurate for what happens with a Photobucket image.]

Then in the body of your blog you type:

<"img src="">

Put your cursor between the two quote marks and insert the URL.

When you post your blog comment, the image should appear wherever you typed the magic words and symbols. Which means you can have text above and below the image.

If it doesn't appear, the odds are you've probably mis-typed the above. Perhaps with a space before/after the equal sign, or something. Happened to me a lot! *s*

Also doublecheck the URL to be sure it's right for wherever you've stored the image.

Hope this helps.

Eric

Joanna Elm | 4 comments My question is about blog posts. Who sees an author blog post? How do they see it? When is an author blog post circulated onto the updates page?

Gerry (gerrydowndoggmailcom) | 60 comments Very gapped questions, I would also like to know how all this works and be able to connect with other members via blogging.

Jaclyn (jaclyn_w) | 417 comments Hi Joanna and Gerry. An author blog post will be seen by all of those who are following or friends with the author, and who have opted to view this content. As an author, when you write a Goodreads blog post all of your friends and followers would see the new post in their update feeds and possibly in their email inboxes too (unless they’ve opted out).

Writing regular blog posts (like every Monday or every fortnight) constantly reminds users what you're up to and would encourage discussions around your blog topic. Feel free to include links to your work and anything else you think they'll find interesting!

Lily MacKenzie (lilyionamackenzie) | 63 comments I have a Wordpress blog, and my posts should appear on Goodreads as well. Does that mean my friends on Goodreads see these postings?

Jaclyn (jaclyn_w) | 417 comments Lily, I've had a look and your blog is reflecting correctly. Your friends on Goodreads will see these posts when visiting your page. When you write a new Goodreads blog post on Wordpress this will then reflect in the updates feed of your friends and followers on Goodreads. As mentioned above, users may also receive a notification of these in their email inboxes, unless opted out.
