Read books by different authors whose first initial of their first name and first initial of their surname are in the same half of the alphabet. Thus, authors with initials A-M are in one half of the challenge and authors with initials N-Z are in the other half of the challenge. Middle names/initials and suffixes will be ignored. Authors with multiple word surnames will be considered as normally alphabetized (for example M ario V argas Llosa wouldn't work). It is acceptable that an author publish with initials only as first name, such as D.H. Lawrence or C.S. Lewis. However, an author cannot have duplicate letters: for example, Gunter Grass and Richard Russo will not qualify for this challenge.

The initial of the first name must appear earlier in the alphabet than the initial of the surname: Iris Murdoch and Thomas Wolfe would work, but Isabel Allende and Wallace Stegner would not.

Authors may be used only once per chain.

Tasks 15.1 thru 15.5 are for the first half of the alphabet (A-M).
Tasks 15.6 thru 15.10 are for the second half of the alphabet (N-Z).

A reader can complete either half multiple times, but both halves must be completed at least once to get a full finisher bonus and qualify for the Mega finish.

Scoring:

15.1-15.10: 15 points each

Bonuses:

Single gender (per half): 25 points
Completing half without duplicating a letter: 25 points
Finish of each half: 25 points
Finish of both halves: 50 points

Added 8/15/16: A few notes:
I. You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for Half and Half (nor do the HaH tasks count as combo style points for Reading with Style's 10 and 20 point tasks).

II. All books read for this sub-challenge must be at least 100 pages, based on the most popular English-language print edition.

III. Please be aware that cookbooks, illustrated guides, and graphic novels are not allowed for the sub-challenge. Also, books designated as "YA", "Assignment", or "Juv" by the Brooklyn Public Library with a Lexile score less than 800 are not allowed.
