As I read through The Genius of Birds, I’m amazed that the astounding information on birds that the author has researched or discovered on her own. Here are some of my favourites so far:
• The chickadee’s call actually flags a potential predator and the number of dees indicates the predator’s size and the degree of threat. The more dees – the bigger the threat! • Satin Bowerbirds who create works of art to attract a female • A golden-winged warbler can anticipate the arrival of bad weather 24 hours before and evacuate to safer areas. • City sparrows will line their nests with cigarette butts to act as an insect repellent.
What are some of your favourite facts about birds that you’ve discovered in this book?
I’ve also attached some videos of birds doing some pretty amazing things!
