Mary Pat | 2186 comments Suggested break down of reading so that you can check in and let us know how you're going. The following breakdown is purely a suggestion and is therefore not set in stone.

Rather than putting dates for each section I've done it so that it takes into account that not everybody will necessarily have the book at the same time.

Week 1: 52.25
Week 2: 52.25
Week 3: 52.25
Week 4: 52.25

Taylor C | 454 comments My library unfortunately doesn't have an ebook version, so whenever I can stop by the library or purchase a copy, I will be joining. :) Has anyone else started?

Lindsay | 1337 comments I would like to join please. I've read the first two chapters Taylor. Since I can probably recite the film word for word it's thrown me off kilter a little. Early days though.

Taylor C | 454 comments Oh good! I think I'm going to end up buying a copy on Friday.

Oooh, I didn't think about how much is different from the movie. For example, I'm rereading Harry Potter. Since I'e seen the movies a million times, I'll catch myself using the actors voices in my head when the lines match up from the book. So I bet that would throw someone off lol.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4748 comments I completely forgot about this. I'm not sure if I will be reading this in September as I have 3 1/2 books in a different series to finish first. Will let you know later this month if I will manage to read Mary Poppins.

Melanie (melaniebopp) I'd love to join the group - I actually just snagged a copy from my library, so yay! I'm really looking forward to seeing how different it is from the Disney-fied version, especially after seeing Saving Mr. Banks when it came out (which I loved).

Mary Pat | 2186 comments I have a confession to make - I couldn't resist and read this one too! Somewhat different than what I expected. Might read the rest of the books in the series.

Mary Poppins is one of my all time favorite movies but it definitely has a different feel than the books. I ended up watching Saving Mr. Banks out of curiosity as to how the movie developed. It isn't completely factual but it is supposed to be close. Gave me a much different perspective.

Wasn't as warm and fuzzy as I expected. What does everyone else think?

Lindsay | 1337 comments I just finished this today. There is such a big difference between the Mary Poppins in the book and the Disney version. It makes me wish life was more like a Disney movie I think! The Mary Poppins in the book is vain and grumpy and not practically perfect in every way. I have seen Saving Mr Banks but I think I might need to watch it again. I also think I will read the rest of the series.

Mary Pat | 2186 comments And what was that whole thing at the zoo? I thought that was a bit dark. I suspect some of that comes from her childhood experiences if what the movie implies is at all true.

I was also surprised to see there were two other children in the story! It will be interesting to see what the rest of the series brings but I don't expect to see the word supercalifragilisticexpealidocious!

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4748 comments Disappointed that I didn't get round to reading this in September. It would have been interesting how different it is to the film I really like. Maybe I'll be able to read this soon

Ecem Yücel (ecemyucel) | 240 comments I haven't watched the movie, yet I read the first 2 books of the series. Interestingly, I read the first book only a year or two years ago, yet the second book (Mary Poppins Returns, if I'm not mistaken) came to me in a box of old children's books from one of my mother's collagues' house, when I was 6 years old or so. I dug into these children's books back then (my mother taught me to read when I was 4) and finding Mary Poppins among those other books was like finding a diamond among less valuable gems tbh. It felt weird at first, much different from the books I read so far, you see so many fantastical elements and sometimes encounter very weird and interesting characters in these books. Yet I ended up reading that very old, hard covered book many many times when I was a kid, because no matter how fantastic it is, it has very realistic points about life and Travers teaches them to the children at an early age, so they kinda know what should they expect in real life. I only can say these out of my Mary Poppins experience from my childhood of course, and it can be different for everyone, yet I can definitely say that these series are a must read, since they will dig up the buried imagination you had inside from your childhood. :)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4748 comments Bit late but I finally managed to read this. I'm glad I did even if I wouldn't put it in my favourites. My review is here
