My name is John Box, I currently live in Tokyo, and I’m an aspiring writer of comedy & general fiction as well as an aspiring translator of popular Japanese books.
While I like focusing on comedy – laughing is the best part of life (okay, laughing and Pizza Hut) – I enjoy reading anything and everything as long as it’s good. For instance, one of the best books I’ve read fairly recently is An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s outstanding literature and has zero scenes guys getting hit in the groin.
If someone I respect recommends a book as a quality read, I’ll give it a shot. Particularly if it’s Biography, Classics, Comedy, History, Humor, Mystery, Philosophy, Religion, Travel, or Hilarious. And that’s what I’m hoping to find here. People who know good books and do all the hard work (finding & filtering it) for me. Yoroshiku! (Hopefully, I can pitch in as well.)
Incidentally, books that I absolutely hate are pretentious piles of word garbage masquerading as “art” like Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy which I recently reviewed, so if you like, check that out.
