A Klue (fromthesouth) | 47 comments Is it just me, but I've been noticing more NG books than usual are being listed close, or even after, their release date. I'm finding it impossible to get my reviews posted on/before that date, which I'm a stickler about. Will it affect my future approval rating with publishers? Specifically, Aug. and Sept. are the two months I've noticed this. I maintain a 90% approval rating..but still keep a backlog of 30 ARCs...most of which are these two months.

Just wondering if others are getting their reviews posted on release dates and the consequences if they don't.

A Klue (fromthesouth) | 47 comments Thanks for sharing, Teresa. I'm concerned my "declined" rate is going to go way up soon. I can only read so fast, after all! lol

I know! I'm stuck on a book i'm not enjoying. My problem is i'm too greedy and I can't say no.

A Klue (fromthesouth) | 47 comments Yep, I know how you feel. What's worse is when you don't request an ARC you've been considering and then you find out it was fantastic, but too late to request it!

The only badge you can lose once you've got it is the 80% badge. What other one are you missing? (trying to help)

message 7: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresaoh) Hi Dorie, It's the one with a book held between two hands. I don't have the 80% badge as my ratio is pretty poor. I requested too many books and they are archiving faster than I can read them!

Milena (love_tea78) | 49 comments Today I got approved for a book that was realeased today

message 9: by A (new)

A Klue (fromthesouth) | 47 comments Wow! That's the kind that gets put at the bottom of my ARC list. Realizing, of course, NetGalley is used to promote all types of books, including previously released ones, I try to keep when I actually received the book in mind as I adjust my reading/review schedule. I'm compulsive about trying to post on release dates, but it seems near to impossible these days with such short notice.

DeB How do you qualify for an 80% badge? How many books do you have to have read and reviewed before you qualify?

In this instance I cannot complain because I only requested it today and got approved today. So I will be reading it next. But I would think most of the books would be archived by the release day

If you got approved for 10 books you will have to read 8 books to get the badge ;-)

DeB Weird... I've read and reviewed 18/19 books and no badge. And I haven't been pokey about it, either...

I find the title selection quite poor on NetGalley for me. There are not a lot of good General or literary titles offered to Canadians and those that are, are shared with USA population and publishers wants booksellers or bloggers with huge followings. I see readers here on GR with no blogs and lots of ARCs of books which are rising stars, and I can't figure it out. I don't understand the older publishing dates still on the site. I did have one publisher tell me that their books would only be up on NetGalley for thirty days, so to make sure I downloaded them right way.

There is so little "Feedback" for us, it seems, that many are confused.

Geography can be a problem for me too. I live in Ireland and find that most books I want to read are either for UK or USA with little for Europe. I do request UK only books though and sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't. I would have thought a large country like Canada would be offered more choice.

Zippergirl | 49 comments You don't get the 80% badge until you've reviewed 20 books.

I don't pay attention to publishing date when choosing books, if they post the book on or after the pub date, they must be aware of it and would like more reviews. I try to read them in order of publishing date, but a late review is better than no review.

That was this summer's Challenge badge. You shouldn't have lost that in any way. I would check again and then contact NetGalley support if you don't have it :)

Thanks Dorie i'll look into it.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 9 comments I remember reading something in their Challenge blog that you would get to keep the badge by posting one review during a certain time frame.

message 19: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresaoh) Ah, that's what it is then. Because I don't think I met the challenge. Thanks Barks Book Nonsence. Oh well. I'd better remove it then, as I thought I was great without knowing why and stuck it on my GR profile and my blog :(

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 9 comments They giveth and they taketh away :(. I thought it a strange approach when I read the blog.

Sorry to butt in but you must have sent in a review during the Challenge time or you wouldn't have gotten the badge to begin with. I would talk to Tarah about it :) They didn't just give it out to everyone, you had to submit the review to get it. I think you're probably good

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 9 comments I thought they gave it to everyone who signed up for the challenge but that you could only keep it if you submitted a review during the timeframe. I could be remembering wrong.

Dorie - Cats&Books :) (dorie--catsbooks) | 427 comments Sorry, I just checked the badge and you are correct, sorry Teresa :(

Teresa (teresaoh) Not to worry. Easy come easy go. I sbhould soon have my 10 reviews badge!

Anita (Hearts and Whodunits) | 31 comments I try not to keep too many books on my too read list. As someone else stated, I like to have them reviewed by the publication date. I think I would feel overwhelmed. Right now, I have 7 books on my list, and I try not to have more than 10. (That's my 2 cents!)

You have the right attitude Anita. I would love to be like you. Unfortunately I am a weak, greedy person. Hopefully one day in the future I will get my act togther

Anita (Hearts and Whodunits) | 31 comments You're not weak nor greedy. I think you're a book lover and if you could read 15 books at one time and absorb them all, you would!

I was wondering how do you get the badges from NetGalley on your Goodreads profile?

message 28: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresaoh) I'm not sure if I did it right but this is how I did it: Go to your NG Profile and click on Earned Badges, copy what is in the box. Go to Edit Profile on your GR Profile and paste it into the About Me box.
That's what I did & it didn't show on my profile until the next day.

CD {Boulder Blvd} (boulderblvd) | 38 comments I try to keep a 10 book limit on Net Galley as well. I do this for fun and when I start feeling pressure to read and review then I know I've over extended myself.

On the flip side I was thrilled to get my "50 Reviews" badge. I had no idea that I had reviewed that many.

I really should put badges on my Goodreads profile and thanks to Teresa for the "how to".

Thanks CD. If anyone knows a better way to do it please share.
