Review....I did not find this an easy book to get into, but once there the writing is hugely impressive. The story is about a sailor, or pirate depending on your viewpoint, named Marlow recounting the story of his job transporting ivory in the Congo and how what a fellow dealer Kurtz, along with other European traders in ivory, have done to the natives. It's a disturbing and dark book in places. Four Stars

I read this when I was about thirty years of age, still playing rugby, full of myself and without a care in the world. This book was a shock. I'd never given a thought to poverty, to the barrenness of ambition and the austerity of others I'd not witnessed. Yes, I was rich in many things but not in the awareness of deprivation. The reading was a moral awakening.
Raskolnikov is pasted inside my mind as is his argument that some have a right to perform murder.
About Me
So far in my life, I have been a London police officer, a tenant of three public houses and a London taxi driver. I have also been arrested for attempted murder.
I mainly write stories involving the intelligence services of the UK and with that in mind, The Desolate Garden was my first novel. Within two months of its publication, it was a paid option to become a $30 million film. That book and more of my work can be found here-- http://mybook.to/DesolateGarden
I write most of the time that I have and read what I can. I would imagine that at the age of sixty-eight this will be my final vocational calling and if so then I'm privileged to have found it.

I guess the lesson to learn is read the small print...very carefully! A well-balanced novel, easy to read and digest.

Broken Bones
Thank you to Net Galley, Bookouture and Angela Marsons for an ARC copy for an honest review.
So firstly let me honestly say although a four star book, this is the weakest book in all the series.
Lots of the previous books I have read and given the books a clear four of five stars.
Angela saves this book with a great last third part.
Yes, so why still four star ?
The excitement of the last part, the splitting of the team giving DS Kevin Dawson and DC Stacey partnered on a different assignment, a great teaming of Kevin and Stacey.
The love of the inter-actions and dialogue between Bryant and Kim, Bryant is a perfect character against Kim wild, outspoken and tough character.
On the same night that an abandoned baby shows up on the steps of the police precinct, a young prostitute is found murdered!
The weakness was the first part of the book, a little slow to build up, a lot of characters, sometimes a little confusing.
Sub plots include a serial killer knocking off prostitutes, human profiteering, an abandoned baby, and yet another murder, really two stories which I found hard to keep the tensions and pace in both plots.
Yes a gritty story and Angela never shy's away from some tough and serious stories, I do admire for this and you just cannot dislike Kim Stone.
Just needed more real tension and gripping pace and action.
Saying that I will always read a new Angela Marsons book

My favorite part was where Kim found the baby, brought it into the police station and tried to pawn it off on the night Sgt. When that didn't work, she brought the baby back to her office and called Bryant. Bryant arrived, then the cavalry arrived. Kevin and Tracy. Kim shouldn't have been surprised that Bryant called in the cavalry because this was going to be the first and last time they would probably see Kim with a baby.
Poor Kevin. He's lucky he was demoted after he almost called Kim the Virgin Mother.

I was blown away by his writing style. I was completely captivated by his every carefully thought out word.
