Thanks to Bookouture, Carol Wyer and Netgalley, for a ARC digital copy; it was my pleasure to write an honest review on the nail biting, gripping and tense thriller.
Bookouture you have found a great author here, I loved this book.
Another great female Detective Inspector character that I will have to follow.
Detective Robyn Carter, returning to the police force after a series of personal tragedies, dives into several investigations; a husband has gone missing and a man turns up murdered. Once she begins her investigations, she sees a link between these men. As she digs deeper and deeper, her investigation leads her to housewife Abigail and her family. How is she connected to these victims and why is she receiving threatening messages; there are secrets and someone wants those secrets told. When Abigail’s daughter is abducted, the race is on to find the perpetrator in time…
The author does such a great job with keeping the pace, tension and story so well, with as mentioned before a collection of great characters, good and bad. I had no glue to the guilty character/characters and kept changing my mind.
The story picks up to a rollercoaster pace for the last 30% -40 % of the book, and the race is on for Detective Inspector Carter and her team.
A fantastic book that I can recommend to everyone. A clear five stars.
This author will be one I look for her next book alongside great police thrillers from Angela Marsons, Sharon Bolton, Casey Hill, Mel Sherratt and Robert Bryndza ... to name a few.

As long as you've downloaded the book to your reading device, it doesn't really make much difference which shelf your book is on. Once you've read it, just search out the book again, you can always use the search feature, it'll bring up your book and you're able to give feedback. I don't take much notice of shelves. And those older than 3 months get automatically moved.

Thanks Janet, I was just worried that something would be archived before I moved it. Some people have made the mistake of not downloading their books then once automatically archived could not download them.

Thank You To Net Galley, the publishers and the author for an ARC copy for an honest review.
June 1980: 17-year-old Kelly Lund is jailed for killing Hollywood film director, John McFadden
Thirty years later, Kelly is a free woman. Yet speculation still swirls over what really happened that night.
And when her father-in law, and close friend of McFadden is found dead - shot through the head at point-blank range - there can only be one suspect.
But this time Kelly has some high-profile friends who believe she's innocent of both crimes.
There are a lot of twists in the story, some easier to figure out than others. To be honest, there weren't really any big surprises in the story, but that didn't make the book less interesting to read. On the contrary, it was satisfying to be able to figure things out before it happened, to have once suspicious proven right. It's like a jigsaw and all the pieces are falling into place. I enjoyed the fact that the story took place in Hollywood among actors and directors, I am sure a world, full of the razzmatazz and glitter and fame but are there people with dark secrets...
Reasons for three star...1980 flashbacks, were a little too heavy going, many characters to follow which 1980 and 2010.
The 2010 story was much more interesting. Pace was too slow and heavy, characters not always believable, no great shocks that I had not guessed. A rather long and slow start to the book.
An okay book for me

Review
I Recommend This Book - STRONGLY
Thank you NetGallery for the opportunity to read John Connolly's new Charlie Parker novel. I have read all of the series and anyone who hasn't read them, should start immediately.
This is a follow up to last year's Song of the Shadows, but it can sstand on it's own - but don't do it...start at the beginning of the series - it is excellent.
Charlie Parker, a private investigator with "special qualities" always finds himself helping someone who is in dire need and Parker is the last resort. The locale changes from Maine to West Virginia, which is a nice diversion.
Parker finds himself up against a strong force called "the cut", with ancient beginnings. Faithful companions, Angel and Louis, are present and the only thing is I want more of those two because they are so interesting and developed characters.
I loved this book and can't wait till the next one. The Charlie Parker series is the best suspense books on the market today. Definitely Recommend. (less)
I had high hopes for Overwatch by Matthew Betley. They were not realised. Compared to many great thrillers I have read recently, this paled in comparison, and if it could have, should have slunk away its tail between its legs.
While I am quite able to stretch my imagination when required, this was ridiculous. The plot required me to suspend all belief in reality and plausibility.
Yes there is plenty of action, but it was not enough to carry me through, and in the end I abandoned this read. I won't be reading the sequels.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster (Australia) via NetGalley for providing a digital ARC of Overwatch by Matthew Betley for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Airship by Peter McAlan is one of those wonderful reads that, once you start, is almost impossible to put down.
It is engrossing, exciting and nerve-wracking. The plot is brilliantly clever and the characters all too human.
Former star of the RAF, Tom Saxon, is a drunk. His glory days are behind him and tragedy has all but destroyed him.
Two companies — one Anglo-American, one French — are competing to bring the airship back into the mainstream of passenger and freight transport. Yet at least one person believes that airships should never fly again. When one of the pilots is killed, Tom is proposed as his replacement.
Can Tom overcome his reliance on alcohol to complete his task? Will they identify and catch the saboteur before he scuppers the project and kills again?
Strongly recommended.

Thank you to Net Galley, the publishers and the author for an ARC copy for this Jon Reznick number 3, the best in the series so far.
When an ex-Delta Forces operative dies in a car wreck in Miami, the FBI dismiss it as a tragic accident. But Jon Reznick isn’t so sure—especially when he learns that his teetotal former colleague was apparently drunk at the wheel.
Reznick’s one-man investigation quickly enters dangerous territory when it becomes clear that this was merely the first in a series of mysterious deaths. All of the victims are ex-Delta Forces, and all were involved in a top-secret Iranian hit under Reznick’s command. Retribution will not be complete until Reznick is wiped out too.
With Iran’s ruthless Quds Force hunting him down on US soil, assisted by a powerful Mexican drug cartel determined to increase its own foothold in the country, Reznick’s survival is a threat to national security. FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein is not as keen as some government officials to sacrifice him as collateral damage, but the longer Reznick runs, the more audacious his enemies become. Innocent American lives are at risk, and only Reznick’s victory—or surrender—can save them.
So why is the best ?
What makes a great action book?
Reznick is being chased by the Iranians, Reznick is chasing the Iranian's. So we have a fast paced action packed book with lots of twists and turns. Lots of rather nasty villains.
What also, to me, makes this book better is a larger role in this book for Martha Meyerstein, who we get to know better each book.
So if we have a book that is fast paced from the start, keeps that pace going and keeps the tension going as well as the action and also has nasty villains. Then we have a five star book.

Sorry, this one wasn't for me. 3/5
