PamG (lynguy1) | 2501 comments Here is my 4.19 rounded to 4 stars review of Wined and Died in New Orleans Wined and Died in New Orleans (Vintage Cookbook Mystery, #2) by Ellen Byron by Ellen Byron:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Overall, this is an engaging cozy mystery with humor, suspense, action, and a bit of romance. I am thoroughly enjoying this series featuring Ricki who has turned her avocation of collecting vintage cookbooks into a job by establishing a gift shop in the late home turned museum of Genevieve (Vee) Charbonnet. The shop sells vintage cookbooks and kitchenware, but there's always a mystery around this museum.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Great characterization and atmosphere were the highlights for me in this mystery. However, the pacing felt somewhat uneven with some slow spots and the ending wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly. Additionally, the suspense didn't leave me with the sense of urgency that I wanted to feel.

John Sanford brings investigation, suspense, and plenty of action to the second book in the Letty Davenport series. The story is part undercover investigation and part action thriller. Sandford’s a superb storyteller who kept me on the edge of my seat as the undercover operation and action unfolded. The final action scenes are riveting and hauntingly memorable.

Jeff Bailey | 4 comments Orphan X This installment in the Orphan X series reveals more of who Evan Smoak is. Recruited when was just an orphan and trained to become a high-risk assassin for the government, Evan has to squelch his humanity in order to function as a killer. “The Nowhere Man”, that person you reached out to when you were most desperate, facing insurmountable odds. Evan had retired from his role as “The Nowhere Man.” But when his phone rings, and the caller seems to be the mother who gave him up for adoption, Is it a trap? What kind of trap. What do ‘they’ want? With this assignment, Evan must confront his past, his real past. For me, Orphan X was a great read, with fascinating, interlaced multiple tracks. I especially liked the narratives of Evens search as he gains an understanding of what it means to do what he needs to do to protect the ones he loves, while discovering his humanity. Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 202 comments I finished Panther Gap by James A. McLaughlin and give it 5++++ Stars! A 2023 Favorite!
My Review

Panther Gap is a beautifully written, action packed thriller that swept me away. I love a story that integrates the surrounding environment into the plot line as an extra character as McLaughlin does in this one. Add a cast of nonconformist characters pushed over their physical and mental limits, and I'm one happy reader. Top that with a family drama - estranged, eccentric family members forced back together in the battle of their lives against bad guys coming at them from every direction in a multifaceted plot line, and I'm in book heaven.
