Elena | 87 comments Hi, this may be a bit of an odd request, but does anyone have any suggestions for books that are mysterious? What I mean by that is....you know the kind of stories where there is some sort of secret and people are behaving strangely? Something like: a person is told not to go beyond "the wall", or in a certain room...the protagonist wonders why so and so behaves so strangely...what the noises at night are, etc. Sorry for the bad description, but I couldn't figure out how to say it. Does anyone know what Im talking about? It doesn't have to be a pure mystery, but a story with mysterious doings. Hope some of that makes sense. Thanks!

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 104 comments These are a few of my favorite authors in the mysterious sense...all of these are old, clean books that you can find audiobooks for free on Librivox for...
Louis Tracy
Mary Roberts Rinehart
Anna Katharine Green
Arthur Williams Marchmont
Robert Barr

I'll try to send some specific recommendations your way from their book list that I have read...

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 271 comments Elena, I think your description is spot on and useful to me as I write novels, one of which has been described as 'part mystery'. It's therefore good for me to know that people like stories with mysterious bits.

B (deathandchocolate) | 37 comments Don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for as far as genre, but the Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen has great twists in it and subtle mysterious happenings.

C. | 297 comments I think this YA Fantasy series that I am reading fits the description pretty well.
Edgewood (Edgewood, #1) by Karen McQuestion
Wanderlust (Edgewood, #2) by Karen McQuestion
Absolution (Edgewood, #3) by Karen McQuestion I read that she is working on book #4.
