Jane (PS) | 24334 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of Disney, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 9 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.

message 10: by Pam (last edited Sep 02, 2016 09:27PM) (new)

Pam | 1048 comments Hi team! I'm Pam from Northern Virginia, right outside Washington DC so eastern time zone here. I have just stumbled off the couch where I have been sleeping for the last five hours totally exhausted from the first week of school--and the kids haven't even started yet!

I'm a high school special education English teacher. This is my favorite Goodreads challenge and this will be my 5th time participating. I love all things Disney (especially Winnie the Pooh) and can't wait until my almost two year old grandson is old enough to go. I actually own Winnie the Pooh sheets for my bed and my husband is sweet enough to let me use them periodically. My favorite ride is the "Tower of Terror" and my husbands hates hates hates "It's a Small World". My favorite time to go to Orlando is the fall for the Food and Wine Festival so I can eat my way around Epcot.

I'm a functional person, rather than creative, so I have zero team names at this point. Maybe when I'm rested. The challenge is to "Disney"fy whatever we come up with. Can't wait to spend the next two months with you all.

message 11: by Runell (new)

Runell Hi, my name is Runell (pronounced Roo-nell). I'm twenty-one, work full-time at a job I can't stand (yay adulthood!), and live in northeast Georgia.

I've been in the worst book slump ever for a year now and have only just started to pick up the speed and get back to my normal reading pace all due to the Meet and Greet challenge so I'm hoping this challenge will also help kick my butt into gear.

I'm actually not the biggest Disney fan (more of a Pixar kind of gal), but I do have my favorites; my boyfriend is actually the bigger Disney fan which I find hilarious.

I'm terrible with coming up for names, so I really can't help you there so I hope we have one super awesome name giver on our team!

Can't wait to get to know you all and discuss some awesome books!

message 12: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31633 comments Hi all, I'm Kat and I live in the mountains of SoCal - thus MountainKat! And obviously in the pacific time zone.

HUGE Disney fan! (view spoiler) In fact, I am an annual pass holder and went to Disneyland yesterday to play! It just makes me happy to be there and I love the movies too. Not overly fond of the Tower of Terror, but I think I might have to ride it one last time before it changes here at California Adventure. I would have a hard time picking a favorite one, but I'm looking forward to it cooling off so I can play more enjoyably. When it's hot, I tend to have more issues with motion sickness - getting older is not for sissies! I'll have to work on ideas for names, I've always liked to include some reference to the number in the name too - not sure how that will work when trying to 'Disney'fy it.

I read most genres of romance, but it has to be romance with VERY few exceptions! Lately audiobooks have been working much better for me, but I usually read more than I have been. I'm really looking forward to this challenge! I've played every round, and even won before. =)

message 13: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 584 comments Hi! I'm Sandy and I live in Los Angeles (I used to live in NoVa, Pam!) I haven't been to Disneyland in more years than I can count, but I really want to go! This is my first time doing this challenge and I'm looking forward to it.

I'll try and think up some names - it's early, so the only one I've come up with so far is:
Disney Diva's

message 14: by Pam (new)

Pam | 1048 comments Hi all who have checked in. I've now had some significant sleep so here are some possibilities incorporating Disney and the team number. I won't lie, the teacher in me loves alliteration with the team number:
Team Five: Frozen in Fantasyland
Frontierland Femme Fatales (Fillys or Filles also a possibility)
Team Five Fantastic Caballeros (this would be Mickey Minnie Donald Daisy and Goofy)

Keep throwing them out there...

message 15: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited Sep 03, 2016 11:07AM) (new)

MountainKat | 31633 comments LOVE the first one Pam! Fits on so many levels. Romance is a bit of fantasy and ties in the park and the movies. And a little alliteration is always good fun.

message 16: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 584 comments I like Frozen in Fantasyland too!

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Becky, and I live in Indianapolis. Most people assume that's Central, but we're actually on Eastern time.

I'm a huge Disney fan! I went to Disneyland once on a family vacation when I was in middle school, and Disney World once in high school with the marching band. (We'd been invited to march in the Orange Bowl parade, and we buzzed through Disney on the way down to Miami.) One of these days I want to get back! My favorite rides were Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. I love the movies, too.

I like alliteration and having the group number in the name, too, but I'm struggling with combining that with Disney. "The Five Whatevers" doesn't work so well since there are six of us. What I've got so far:

Belle's Bookworms
The Fairy Tale Fives
The Magic Kingdom Cuties
The Magic Kingdom Mamas
The Disney Dreamers

message 18: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31633 comments Those are cute too Becky! I'm not even going to try to think of anything now. =)

My vote goes to - Team Five: Frozen in Fantasyland

I love that one!

Tammie | 2027 comments Good Day everyone! I am Tammie...from St. Louis, Missouri metro area a Real Estate I'm well versed in Disney from 15 years ago as my children caused the Disney craze in our household for many years...I think we visited the Magic Kindgom and Disneyland at least 6 times.

I love to read Romance of any kind, a good crime novel every once in awhile. Am always open to new authors. I love a great series...favorite authors are Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Suzanne Brockmann, Kristen Ashley, Diana Gabaldon. I'll be checking out your shelves for new ideas for sure!

Kat, do you know when the quarterly challenge is going to start? I'm trying to decide if I want to sign up for the next Meet-n-Greet, but I'm afraid that Pass the Parcel, Meet-n-Greet, and a quarterly challenge will be too much all at once.

MountainKat | 31633 comments I like to keep a single post with all my books in it, so I'll be doing it here!

Week 1: Mickey, Pluto and Donald - read a book with pets in the storyline.
Master of the Abyss (Mountain Masters & Dark Haven, #2) by Cherise Sinclair Master of the Abyss by Cherise Sinclair, 312 p. per GR
Option 2: #2 in series, #3 in series on Sandy's Read Shelf, read 8.30.16, rated 5 stars

Completed 9.9.16 *4+ Stars*

Interestingly enough, this book had a pet in it too! =)

Cherise Sinclair works for me! She can make characters and situations that I wouldn't otherwise like and make me ok with them. This book didn't really push those boundaries so even better! I liked the characters, and I enjoyed their story. I really like the mountain setting too! Jake took a bit to get there, but it was wonderful when he did! How he dealt with Kallie's issues, once he understood them was awesome! Kallie definitely deserved the tough guy to fall hard for her. Looking forward to more in this series!

I listened to the audio with a pair of new to me narrators, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross. I thought they did a very good job. This was different from the current trend of just alternating narrators with point of view, each always did the hero or heroine's voice and thoughts. The sound effects, laughs, gasps and the like, took a bit to adjust to as most audiobooks don't include that, but it worked. I hope to get more of this series in audio with the pair narrating!

Week 2: Walt Disney died of lung cancer - read a book with illness, sickness.
Red Dirt Heart (Red Dirt, #1) by N.R. Walker Red Dirt Heart by N.R. Walker, 162 p. per GR
#47 on "OMG You Almost DIED!!" m/m with hospital scenes List

Completed 9.21.16 *4 Stars*

Very sweet story. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting. Even if it wasn't all perfect, according to a friend who would know! I am definitely interested in what happens next!

I listened to the audio of this and it was quite good. The narrator, Joel Leslie, did a good job. The accent was almost too heavy at times though, a time or two I had to go back to relisten if I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Week 3: Disney World opened in Florida in 1971 - read a book set on a beach, is a great beach read or set in one of the Disney parks.
Salvation in Death (In Death, #27) by J.D. Robb Salvation in Death by J.D. Robb, 353 p. per GR
Option 2: #27 in series, #32 in series on Pam's Read Shelf, read 7.29.16, rated 4 stars

Completed 9.28.16 *4 Stars*

I love this series and this was another good one! This one was pretty complicated with lots of other characters involved, but I loved how it all fell together. Very interesting! And as usual, Susan Ericksen did a great job with the narration!

Week 4: Walt Disney died 15 December 1966 - read a book where its stated number of pages on GR repeats a number eg 112 pages, 200 pages or 303 pages etc.
Angel's Devil by Suzanne Enoch Angel's Devil by Suzanne Enoch, 212 p. per GR
#2 repeats in the page number of the paperback edition on GR.

Completed 10.3.16 *3+ Stars*

I enjoyed this. It wasn't great, but it was good. The exchanges between the MCs were often funny as were many of the other discussions and characters. I'm glad how everything worked out in the end though.

I listened to the audio of this and it was ok. I was warned by a friend about the narrator, so I think that helped me not dislike it so much because I was expecting worse. So it was ok for me to listen to.

Week 5: Walt Disney started his company on 16 October 1923 - read a book published in October of any year.
Ritual in Death (In Death, #27.5) by J.D. Robb Ritual in Death by J.D. Robb, 160 p. per GR
Edition published October 11, 2012

Completed 10.11.16 *4- Stars*

Good, but probably simpler than even the other novellas. But it was Roarke and Eve and everyone else, narrated wonderfully by Susan Ericksen - so it was enjoyable to me.

Week 6: Disney was a shy, self-deprecating and insecure man in private - read a book from the nerds/geeks lists.
The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years, #1) by Sarina Bowen The Year We Fell Down by Sarina Bowen, 270 p. per GR
Option 2: #1 in series, #5 in series on Becky's Read Shelf, read 7.18.16, rated 5 stars

Every now and then you find a book that has everything in it you don't like, but you like it anyway. I've had this book recommended to me repeatedly and finally put it on a list for a challenge - and they were right! This was a sweet story with lovable characters. They had trials, but there wasn't a ton of angst. I would have loved an epilogue though!

I listened to the audio, in fact the audio coming out was a factor in me finally reading this, and I really enjoyed it. It had dual narrators, Nick Podehl and Saskia Maarleveld, and they did a very nice job with the story. I look forward to listening to more in the series!

Week 7: Disneyland: The Happiest Homecoming on Earth - read a book with a child/children as a central character.
Strung Up (Blacktop Cowboys, #7.5) by Lorelei James Strung Up by Lorelei James, 120 p. per GR
Option 2: #7.5 in series, #6.5 in series on Tammie's Read Shelf, read 9.11.16, rated 4 stars

Completed 10.27.16 *4 Stars*

I enjoyed this, it was a quick read. It was only two easy evenings of reading interspersed with real life, perfect size to fit around things. I liked the characters and their story. It helps in shorter stories that their was a history between the characters like this couple had. It always makes me happy when other people in the story don't make a big deal out of the gay (or whatever) couple, I love the understanding - love is love! Not that both characters hadn't had issue with it in the past and probably would again, but where they were in their lives now was good, as it should be. Looking forward to more in this series!

Week 8: Book with a colorful cover (at least 4 colors).
Into the Fire (Hot Nights, #1) by Amanda Usen Into the Fire by Amanda Usen, 201 p. per GR
Orange, yellow, black and white on cover.

Completed 10.31.16 *4- Stars*

This book was basically one great big misunderstanding! And it worked. The problems were well rooted in the hero and heroine's insecurities, so it was understandable how they acted and reacted. I enjoyed it and would read the author again - especially for that U in her last name!

Week 9: Disney's characters and movies generally epitomise innocence - Read a book from our virginal heroes lists.
The Lightning-Struck Heart (Tales From Verania, #1) by T.J. Klune The Lightning-Struck Heart by T.J, Klune, 400 p. per GR
#227 on the Best Gay "Virginal" Characters List.

Completed 11.11.16 *5 Stars*

I'll just start with saying that any book that could keep my attention and make me laugh this week has to be wonderful! This book did both delightfully! It was quirky and fun. And funny with fabulous sidekicks. It was bizarre and awesome and I loved it!

I listened to the audio, and here it comes -another expletive, it was magnificent! The narrator, Michael Lesley, made the story even better with the characters and emotions he put into the reading. The whole thing was such a joy to listen to and I would go out of my way to recommend this and listen to more he has narrated!

There are so many brilliant reviews of this book out there - go read them, just for the joy of it. Here, I'll help, start with Shelby's review!

Week 10: It's a Small World - read a book set in a small country.
Deadly Descent (Bagram Special Ops, #1) by Kaylea Cross Deadly Descent by Kaylea Cross, 192 p. per GR
Set in Afghanistan with an area of 647,500 square kilometers.

Completed 11.15.16 *4+ Stars*

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Kaylea Cross books! She writes wonderful characters and puts them in tense situations and does it so well. I really liked this story, Cam and Devon were wonderful hero and heroine. I loved seeing them get their HEA. It wasn't easy to get there, but it was worth it and the ending was very sweet. Definitely looking forward to more in the series!

I listened to the audio and loved it! Kaleo Griffith is wonderful and I just wish he was narrating the rest of the series!!

Week 11: Mousekateers are part of Disney's team - read a book where close friends, close family is a key theme.
The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark #1) by Kresley Cole The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole, 163 p. per GR
#37 on the Books With Close Siblings

Completed 11.18.16 *4+ Stars*

I saw this on one of the lists for this week and thought, that would be a quick reread - then I discovered the had redone the audio with Robert Petkoff as the narrator!! Oh yeah, that was well worth the time! I didn't remember much of the story since it had been a while and that probably made it even more enjoyable for me. I love this series and I love it even more in audio! Waiting, impatiently, for more...

Tammie | 2027 comments Double checking on rules I'm pretty sure of and too lazy to read through Q&A.

...I want to read the next Psy book...I found #14 on one of our shelves, but I need to read #2...would that work for my option 2?

Pam | 1048 comments Hey Tammie-just sent you a message to amend your choice. Your choice is fine but you need to edit your entry for me only because it has to be a team member. Interestingly enough MountainKat read it on exactly the same day and gave it exactly the same star rating.

Haha! Karen and I are very much alike and it is not at all uncommon for us to rate a book the same. It is uncommon that we finish them on the exact same day!

Review: Noah is a deeply closeted, and desperately lonely, professor struggling to finish the book that will guarantee him tenure at the anti-gay Christian university where he's worked for years. Adrian is a man stranded at an RV park in the middle of nowhere Utah after another long distance relationship embarrassingly collapses, with his dog, but no shoes, wallet, or phone charger. It's almost ridiculous how perfect these two are for each other, but it never felt forced. Even their dogs, who are complete opposites, get along well. The critical moment in their relationship was believable, and the way they got past it was satisfying. And the final chapter could give you a toothache, it was so sweet and perfect for these guys.

Review: Zoraya Venedetta was a hoot in this story - I loved her!!! What does she do when she finds the phone of the stuck-up suit on the train? She takes a picture of her boobs and sends it to him! While giving him the finger! Graham Morgan is a dick! He's rude and arrogant and can't keep a secretary for more than a couple of days. His wealth allows him to act like this, and he's not prepared for someone like Zoraya to call him out on his behavior and not take his sh*t. This story was so much fun, and just when I thought it was so predictable, the authors changed things up. Yes, there are plenty of things that are similar to other books in the genre, but this book was so entertaining and sexy and I loved the characters!
