I've been dealing with health issues and other important stuff, like getting married and my closest friend passing away.

Are we still interested in this group? I feel overwhelmed by heaviness...illness, death, and national crappy politics...and in need of a light but inspiring read. Does anyone have suggestions? If I hadn't already read it twice, I'd say it was time for The Night Circus...

I found a page that suggested these books for lovers of TNC:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

https://librarypoint.bibliocommons.co...

Do any of these interest anyone? Has anyone read them and have a negative/positive response?

Sorry to have been gone for so long...

Kathryn

Elaine Cook | 6 comments I read The Magicians, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and one other on that list but can't say I would call them mood elevating. Try any of the Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley or Where'd You Go, Bernadette
I have kept up with some of the book related groups on Ravelry more regularly than the Ravelry GR group just because I'm already on R.

This group read Where'd You Go, Bernadette and yes, it was wonderful. I'll check into Bradley's books, thanks for the suggestion. Otherwise, Bernadette would be a fun re-read.

Debbie (dlwc58) Hi Kathy,
I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling with health issues right now. My condolences for the loss of your friend. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Your world must feel surreal right now with so many contrasting feelings.
All the books I think of as uplifting have events that may be triggers for you right now, but two I would recommend despite the triggers would be Moonheart by Charles de Lint and Etta and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper. I just finished the Emma Hooper book and it left me relaxed and peaceful. In fairness, it also made me cry. But, that's not always a bad thing in my world.
I wish you all the best moving forward,

Debbie

Thanks, Debbie. I think I have a handle on the health issues; you know how it is, you're healthy until you're not. My marriage was a quiet affair in our home and is a few months old now but we didn't celebrate with family until recently, an exhausting-because-it-was-so-much-fun long weekend. It took some time to recover from the vacation lol.

I'm ok with triggers, thank you so much for the suggestions and kind words.

Jen (jenlyjen) | 9 comments I wish for you to have less heavy times in the coming months!

I would like to suggest Penelope Lively and Barbara Kingsolver if you have not already been reading these authors.

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 41 comments Happy Saturday! It's a dry weekend here in NYC, too. It's been the driest winter on record - no snow in the city. I have mixed feelings about it. I just finished The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams and am halfway through a pair of boot toppers.

Cat von Hassel-Davies (craftyncer) | 4 comments Happy Valentine's! It is warm here in NC, we haven't had much of a winter. I am just starting The Girl on the Train by Irma Joubert.

I'm glad you chose to read "The Reading List". I really enjoyed the book. I just finished a pair of socks for my husband and I'm torn between making another pair (quick and easy) or starting a sweater made with fingering yarn (long and challenging). Maybe I'll flip a coin.
