Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Do we still have a "fit this book for me" thread?

If we do, you could post your book there, Karen, if you find you need any help fitting your book to a task.

Janet F (janet_f) | 450 comments I had this question in my help thread 25.12 and I'm not sure if I have it correct. Is it okay to disregard the 'del' in Guillermo del Toro for author initials? Here's the inquiry and my response:

Sandra wrote: "Would Guillermo del Toro work for Option #5 (initials GT)?"

Janet wrote: I'm not sure on that one since I think Del is part of the last name. However, I don't mind approving it as long as the Mods accept it. I like to stay consistent with the Standard SRC guidelines.

The mods have been discussing this issue. In order to keep things consistent for the mods and the participants, we'll be sticking with the rule that a word is a separate word if there's a space in front of or after it (as opposed to a hyphen or the words being put together in one word). An author's first name is the first word listed and an author's last name is the last word listed. We realize that this is not exactly accurate, since Mr. del Toro most likely considers this his last name, but for simplicity, consistency, and predictability, this is how we're handling names. This author's initials are GT for purposes of the challenge.

Thanks for the input!

Fandury | 957 comments Can it be that we have in the moment only 2 alphabetical Readerboards, one updated till post 800 and one till post 850, but are missing the one sorted after the points we have managed to get?

unfortunately, it's an easy mistake - all I have to do is click in the same box twice. It's fixed.

Jessica (sureshot26) | 745 comments Since I manage to mess up in my reading of tasks several times each season (and I'm sure I'm not the only one! :)), I was trying to think about ways that we could help each other not miss required elements. In a future season, could we consider requiring task creators to bold, underline, all-caps, or otherwise emphasize all required elements of a task/option?

Since our tasks often have multiple layers now (such as requirements attached to the title, author, and page count for a single book), it gets hard to pick out everything, particularly in tasks with multiple options. Some task creators already do emphasize multiple requirements, which is a huge help. If we try to help each other out by highlighting out what we want our fellow competitors to do when we write our tasks, I feel like it would help reduce the number of errors everyone makes.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4448 comments General question about 50-point task ...
This is a task that is announced half-way through the season.

Must the books used for the 50-point task be read AFTER the task is announced? Or can we use any book that meets the requirements of the task, as long as it was read (in entirety) within the season (starting June 1 for the current Summer 2014 season)?

message 110: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1671 comments I am not a moderator. My understanding is any book that you have read during the course of the current challenge is eligible.

Any book read during the current season may be used for the 50 point task

Jessica, your suggestion seems reasonable. However, it should be noted that the task "Moderator's Pet" is based on eligibility determined by not making a mistake when posting = or at least not ending up on the Problems' Thread. For that reason, I think things should stay as they are.

I open two tabs when positng. One to actually post in the Completed Thread and one open to the season's task. Before hitting the POST button, I review the task description to be sure nothing has been missed. This has kept me off the Problems thread for several seasons.

message 113: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments also a lot of the issues in the problems thread don't necessarily seem to be from task requirements, but simple things like ebook only needing to be verified - I think that is probably like 70% of the problems

Jessica (sureshot26) | 745 comments That's true, Bea and Dee. I was thinking about it from a perspective of trying to reduce errors that then have to be touched three times for a fix (mod to point it out, poster to fix it, mod to record again), but not thinking about the fact that we also have the dependency of Moderator's Pet and we don't want to make the challenge inappropriately easy. Probably better that we make mistakes, since they're the best way to teach ourselves not to make them again!

Let's forget I mentioned it, okay? :)

LOL! You have a point there, Jessica. Have a good day!

message 116: by Deana (new)

Deana (ablotial) | 276 comments So normally for kindle or audiobook versions, we are supposed to use the mass market paperback version if one exists.

What if the MMPB version is in another language, for instance, for This is Where I Leave You (the only MMPB version is C'est ici que l'on se quitte) Should I use this? Or go to a paperback version in English?

jingles | 127 comments I have a question, and hope I'm posting it in the correct place.

Is there a cut off for completing the 30 point tasks? Are we limited to the amount of time to get those completed, or do we have until the end of the challenge to get them done?

I thought I read something a day or so ago regarding this, but now I can't find anything, so I may have just misunderstood what I read.

message 119: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1671 comments No cut off for completing the 30 pt tasks, other than the end of the challenge Aug 31.

What you probably read was the cutoff for getting to WRITE a 30 pt task.

I am so relieved to know that :)
