Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 424 comments Publish through Smashwords and set the price to free there. Then report a lower price to Amazon and contact them through their contact page to let them know.

It's harder to get the international Amazon sites to set to permafree though. I haven't been able to accomplish that no matter what I did.

C.A. Pack (capack) | 50 comments I'm doing the same thing right now. I uploaded my book to Smashwords and set the price as free. I'm going to write to Amazon.com and ask them to match the price. A lot of people have told me Amazon will make the book free if it's free elsewhere online.

Ken (kendoyle) | 364 comments They used to price-match to free more often in the past, but they're not as willing to do it now. I know a few authors who have simply received a form e-mail telling them they're in violation of the TOS when they've asked for a price-match.

I had no success when I tried that strategy. I eventually pulled my book from smashwords and enrolled in Kindle Select.

Me too. I found Smashwords irritating and difficult to navigate. Kindle Select has been fabulous, so I recommend it in place of free. You do get five days you can mark it free in your 3 months, so it's not like you can't do deals. 8-) Good luck!

Adam Chance | 39 comments I'm sure there are some You Tube 'how to' instructional videos on this subject. Also if you enter your query into your browser you should also get some other tutorials.
