Welcome fellow conquerors,
please post book suggestions below. No Moby-Dick or Anna Karenina. We'll get to them later. Let's start with the basics.

Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carrol
Peter Pan - J.M. Barrie
A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
Dracula - Brahm Stoker

Define "basics".

Hello Kevin, welcome to the group. By basics I mean the smaller and easier ones. Really like your suggestions and I was actually planning to start with "Alice in wonderland" too. How do you feel about reading some other children's classics like "Anne of Green Gables" or "A Little Princess"
Also, I am surprised that we're both reading "The Alchemist" now. Hope you're loving it as much as I am.

I actually haven't read Anne of Green Gables or A Little Princess. Thanks for the suggestion. I started with Alice because I personally found the book to be very enjoyable.

I also placed Peter Pan on the list because it was a book that addressed growing up as a theme, a responsibility that I have to cope with right now.

Should we have a time period range? Such as 800 BC to 1900 AD?

I am no expert when it comes to time periods but I feel it to be a good idea. But I thought we could read "The Lord of the Rings" or "The Chronicles of Narnia". Do they count as classics?
Anyway what do you think about starting next month?
We could read one book together every month and have discussions on it.

Really to me anything that counts as a "classic" is any book published before 1970 so I guess that Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia count as classics.

Right now in my book pile I have (all books, including the ones that aren't classics):
We are all Completely Beside Ourselves - Karen Joy Fowler
Inferno - Dan Brown
Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes
The Count of Monte Christo - Alexandre Dumas

Which one do you want to read? Currently I am in the middle of my exams so I have less reading time. I probably will not finish all of these books until mid November.
