Meera Hi, I’m Meera from the US. I’m an avid reader who has been only reading mindless books since last October pretty much. I’ve made my shelves private so you can’t see the horrible and yet fun things I’ve been reading! Now that I’ve been on vacation for couple of weeks (I’m a teacher), I’m ready to tackle heavier reads (not ready for War and Peace though!). I will read anything really as long as it grabs my attention. I saw that this group is reading The Shadow of the Wind and since I actually own a copy of this, I'm hoping that I'll be motivated to read it.

message 156: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Welcome to the group Meera :) And am sure the members of this group will definitely motivate you into reading both the BOTM as well as other books soon :) Hope you have a wonderful time with us :)

And well, maybe I like people who do the same, too... ;) Hi all!

@Sumit, and it keeps getting even more massive! I guess I'm going to be rather well read if it ever gets back down to 2-digits :D

@Fong: Southern, though. ;) How so?

Hello all,

Neeraj here. Born and school-ed up in a Public Sector township in the river town, Haridwar. Ruskin Bond's works were among the firsts.

These days my interests are mostly Non Fiction(India, World Order, Society and Science) with bouts of Existentialism or Indian Fiction(Modern Indian Fiction/Sahitya Academy stuff).
Have recently started to blog about books here, shelfandthebeanbag.blogspot.com

message 164: by Sumit (new)

Sumit Singla (sumitsingla) Hello, Neeraj. Welcome to our group. Hill towns are great places to read Ruskin Bond, aren't they? :) I grew up in Solan (H.P.) and read quite a bit of his work as a child.

What kind of existential stuff do you read?

message 183: by B (new)

B @Sumit yes I've read Mr Mercedes - I preordered it! Are you part of the Stephen King Fans group on here? They're really good. What's your favourite King book + character?

message 184: by Sumit (new)

Sumit Singla (sumitsingla) Brooke, I pre-ordered it too! (And liked it as well).

I'm a major King fan, and will join the group you mentioned. It's tough to pick just one favourite, but I think The Shining was great! (I didn't like the movie though).

And my favourite character would probably be Roland the Gunslinger. Such a deep, complex character!

Sorry I replied before and it didn't work :/

King didn't like the movie either, so you're in good company! I haven't even seen it.

I'm really looking forward to finishing the Gunslinger series but my favourite book would have to be the Stand.

message 192: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Williams (NicholasWilliams) Hello everyone,

I am Nicholas and I live in the central part of America, Arkansas to be exact. I'm 27 years old and have recently found a true passion for books. While my wife has always been a huge fan of books her whole life, I am fairly late to the party. With a beautiful wife and daughter by my side, I am hungry for books, it's that simple.

I'm sure I will learn more about some of you as the time goes on and vise versa but as far as genres go for me, I enjoy most of everything excluding Romance/Erotica stuff. I'll leave that for the women in the group.

Best regards and hope to hear from some of you soon.

message 193: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Welcome aboard Ansh, Sharon and Nicholas :) Hope you have a wonderful time with us :)

@Nicholas - Your daughter is truly adorable. :)

By the way, your wife and I share a similarity, in that we both got our husbands converted into avid readers :) :)

message 194: by Shruti (new)

Shruti Sharma (shrutisharma_sammy) Hello everyone! I am shruti, but rather call me Sammy. I am from Delhi and books and the characters from books are my best friends. No no no I am not a sad person with no friends but I connect and feel more at ease with a book in my hand. I am always on a lookout for new books. Currently reading game of thrones. Good to connect! Looking forward to some interesting discussions!

message 195: by Sumit (new)

Sumit Singla (sumitsingla) Hello Shruti! Welcome to this great group. :)

I'm sure most of us here will be able to relate to having books and characters from books as best friends.

As Groucho Marx said, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it is too dark to read."

message 196: by Shruti (new)

Shruti Sharma (shrutisharma_sammy) ah! that reminds me ... dogs too come in that list by the way. Thanks Sumit! I am sure all of us do. cheers!

message 198: by Sumit (new)

Sumit Singla (sumitsingla) Hi Praveen, welcome to the forum. :)

Which one are you reading from Manto? If it's Selected Short Stories from Manto, let me know if you are interested in a buddy read - we could read and discuss together.
