Ellen B Since I only just recently started participating in this group, I thought I'd join this challenge before the year's out. Plus, I'm really enjoying reading the classics.

1899 and before:
1. King Learby William Shakespeare (1603)
1900-1999
2. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston (1937)
3. Doctor Zhivagoby Boris Pasternak (1957)

Alternate:
A1: The Pilgrim's Progressby John Bunyan (1678)

I read "Their Eyes Were Watching God" last year--it was really good.

Ellen B :) Thanks, all. I'm downloading Lear right now. I read it in college some 10 years ago (view spoiler), so I'm looking forward to a reread with commentary. (Btw, if anyone else is interested in annotated Shakespeare plays, check out www.chopbard.com. He's just starting the Winter's Tale now.)
