81) Two elementary-school best friends and neighbors make a pact together. Years later, in high school they have grown apart. Though they still live next to each other, they don’t talk and they generally dislike each other because of a fight they had. Will they keep the pact that meant so much to their younger selves, or break it because of just a fight?
Key item: You don’t find out what the pact is until later in the story.

82) You and your sister have spent all summer at your grandparents' house. It's been a mostly uneventful stay, but one week before you plan to return home, she spots something strange...In the attic window across the street, she swears she saw...Fill in the blank and tell how this sighting affects the last few days of your summer vacation.

Key Item: You two are definitely coming back next summer!!

83) Imagine you could go back in time to spend one day with anyone you chose. Would it be a hero? Someone famous? Would you spend your day with a villain or a long lost loved one? Write an entry describing who you would spend the day with, how you would spend the day with them, and why you chose them.

Key Item: Mention who you would spend the day with if it were the future instead of the past.

84) Like Greek mythology? Me too! My name's (insert character name) and, boy do I have a story for you! What if I told you that I met a god/goddess once?

Key Item: Story must be told from first person pov. At some point, state whether it's all just a story for your character or whether it really happened.

85) Choose a number between five and ten. Use that number as the title of your next poem! Here's the catch: You can't use the number in the poem itself. You must have x (insert number you chose) number of stanzas in the poem, x (same number) number of lines in each stanza, and x (still the same) number of words in each line.

Key Item: Bonus points if you create a pattern that connects the syllables in each word to your number (doesn't have to be the number itself).

You wake up one day and find you slept through a robbery. Your sister, your favorite writing pencil was taken, and a box of cereal was taken. The thief/kidnapper left a note it said: don't tell anyone. There are millions of questions swimming around in your head. Why did they take your sister? Why did you not hear her resist when she was in the room next to you? Did she go willingly?

Key item: the person who kidnapped your sister was out for revenge, but revenge on who and for what is up to you.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 88.
Your country is taken over by a (any type of government besides democracy). Your father was president. You were not captured, you went into hiding. The country that took over is looking for you. You decide to find one of your friends family's from before your parent was the president. They kept you hidden for a month. Then one day, you were in the basement, the police found you. What happens next?

Key item: you make friends with the new leaders daughter.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 89.B you are a brand new author trying to get your book published. You think you found a publisher willing to publish your book. You send it in. Later that year you find a book in a bookstore. You pick it up, and after the first two chapters, you realize this is your writing, published under a different author name. You buy the book, and later research it online. You know this is your book. The story goes through the struggle of fileing for copyright infringement.

Key item: make sure to include how popular the book is, and the other person getting credit for it.

Congrats! It's finals week, and that meteor you were praying would hit the school? It's here! Only problem is it is late, and you still have plenty of time to finish the exam. The teacher is not letting you go until you finish, and every minute that passes, the meteor hurtles closer. How do you react? Do you argue with the teacher? Try to sneak out the window?

Key Item: You cannot finish the exam early. That would be cheating.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 90. B When going through your sisters things after her death that was ruled an accident, you find letters to a shady man. You read the letters and find that your sister worked for him, and thought it was a legal business. In the letters you also find letters addressed to the man, multiple that were not sent, saying she couldn't help any more. You decide to hire a private investigator. The first one refused to help. The second agreed.

Key item: Along with letters you found tons of bills addressed to your sister from the same man.

You could do it from the perspective above, or from the private investigator's perspective.

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 90)
Write an entire story using nothing but dialogue. No descriptions, no narration. Just two people having a conversation. Tell the entire thing using their reactions to the environment tell the tale.

Key Item: Have something other than the weather come through in your descriptions. Be creative about it. Think about sounds and sight, not just temperature and breezes.

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 91)
You played a trick on the wrong neighbor, and they cursed you. You didn't believe them and went back home. The next morning you woke up, and you can only speak in Rhyme. As the day progresses, more crazy things start happening to you, but the old curse is never replaced, rather, they just get added on top.

Key item: Add a confrontation with the neighbor.

Bonus points if you find the game "Curses" and you pull a random curse out of the deck to be your character's next curse.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 92. You were left on the steps of an orphanage as a baby. You are reminded of that every day. Instead of teaching you, you are required to work in their factory from age four and on. Whenever you ask about doing anything but working, you are quickly reminded that you are an orphan. One day you found some books left in your room. You happily stay up late to read them, every week the books change, and make your day bearable. The you start to wonder about the outside world. You decide to escape. What happens after you escape?

Key item: the books she read shows the world as a happy place, when she escapes she is in France during world war 2.

93. Write a poem about a fight using a lot of onomatopoeia. Don't let the readers know what the fight is about till the ending. Be
sure to include bystanders and their reactions

Key item: start the poem with onomatopoeia.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 94. When on a trip out of the country, a robbery happened at the hotel you were staying at. All evidence points to you, but you know you didn't do it. You are arrested, but insist you didn't do it. You were framed by someone, what were their motive? how long are you in prison in this country? what are their jails like? What goes on while you are in prison?

Key item: The person who framed you visited you in prison.

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 95)
You are not human. You might not even be alive. Write a short memoir of your birth, life, and your last days on earth.

Key Item: Include a penguin squeaky toy, just for the fun of it. Unless you are a penguin squeaky toy, then find something equally random and bizarre for you to confront.

Bonus if you personify the thing so well, the reader cant tell it isn't human until either told or something strange happens.

(I really would like to see this. I did my ode to a piece of paper once, it would be nice to see what other people come up with.)

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 96)
Go to wikipedia. Hit random. Whatever pops up first is your main character, second is your setting. Third is some how related to your main Character's biggest dream. This is an exersize in imagination. Don't think small, and don't cheat just because you don't know what something is, or the setting doesn't make sense because it's not a place. Somehow make it work. You'll be surprised what amazing, (And hilarious) ideas you can come up with.

Key Item: Your Title should be the last five words of a random quote.

message 68: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 02, 2017 07:22AM) (new)

(Semi-inspired by what my sister, cousin, and I are doing in Minecraft. Lol.)
97. You live on an isolated shoreline where the sun literally never sets, and resources are plentiful. You don't know how you got here, but you're happy fishing, hunting, and being alone in an idyllic world. Then two strangers wash up on the beach. They eat your food, clear the nearby forest, and generally change things. The worst part of all? Shortly after they arrive, the sun begins to set for the first time in months.
Key item: If your character is a boy, the strangers are girls, and vice versa--but there is no romance.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

98. For the past twenty years, your town has had a community garden at its center. People can take fruits, vegetables, and other plants as they please--as long as they help in some way. The garden allows citizens to interact more, and it keeps them healthy. But a fast food CEO moves into town and wants to demolish the garden to make room for his latest shop. Most citizens are rightly opposed, but a growing number say that the CEO has a point.

Key item: The town is in England.

message 70: by [deleted user] (new)

99. Write a retelling of Beauty and the Beast in which Beauty (the physically attractive character) is actually the Beast at heart. They're the one who imprisons people. The monstrous-looking character is the one who just wants to protect his or her family.
Key item: Still include the transfigured servants from the original, but twist it. Maybe they're the "pretty" character's slaves?

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

100. You've been kidnapped by an enemy of your politically-active parents. You know that you're innocent, though. You had to go to rallies with your family, sure, but you were never very outspoken or even interested in politics.
Key item: You're kept in a room with one other victim. He or she wants to help you, but is an immigrant who barely speaks the same language as you.

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

101. A plague ravages your city. You thought you were vaccinated, but you fall ill. Nobody expects you to recover, but you pull through. The catch? In the midst of your illness, when no one thought you could see or hear, you heard the doctors say that the vaccine is a placebo--completely useless and fake. When you try to tell everyone, they think your delirious mind caused you to hallucinate this event. Why are the doctors lying? Will anyone believe you?
Key item: Make up a plague--don't use a real disease.

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

102. The characters in one of your actual works-in-progress discover that they're fictional. Worse, they discover your planned ending--and some of them hate it! They try to change fate by any means possible. On the other hand, some are okay with your ideas, and try to stop the others from interfering.
Key item: The character who will get the worst ending in your book (death, loss, etc.) is the one who accepts. The character who gets a relatively happy ending is the one who wants to change it.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

103. Find--or make--a character profile sheet. Now fill it out for at least one of your characters. Please remember to source it if it's not yours.
Key item: Then write a short reflection on what you learned about your character, if anything.

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

(More character exploration prompts!)
104. One of your original characters has to write an essay describing themselves. Whether they want to or not is up to you. And if you want, you're allowed to do this with more than one OC!
Key item: Let their personality really shine through.

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

105. Make an AU (alternate universe) fanfic for one of your works-in-progress. What if all the characters were ghosts? That's just an example--you can change anything you'd like!
Key item: If you have artistic skills, also draw fan art of your AU. If not, that's okay. :)

message 77: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 106) You and your character are invited to a Talk show called "Speaking in the 4th." It's a show where Authors get to meet their Characters, and visa versa. You both get the chance to answer the same questions, together! How does your character react to meeting you? Are you anything like they thought you'd be? Is your character different than how you wrote them? Did you say they hated the color pink, and it turns out they don't? Which other characters/RL people are in the audience, and do they get a shout out? Who is the interviewer? Do you and your character get into fights over which version of the story is correct?

Key item: These are just ideas, so come up with a unique way to interact with your character. If there is something you have in your head as a pet name or title for the character that he or she doesn't know or is not called by in the story, use it! (Such as Lenora being my Princess in Tennis shoes, but tennis shoes do not exist in her world.)

message 78: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments 107) Take a folk tune, and write a story around that world. Why Did Mary's Lamb follow her to school? Who was Rowing down the stream? What is the singer of Scarborough Fair Actually trying to tell his True love with all of those ridiculous and impossible requests?!

Key Item: Make sure that you include both the object of the song, as well as the singer.

message 79: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 03, 2017 12:26PM) (new)

108. A sorceress kidnaps children, but not for any of the stereotypical fairy tale reasons (cannibalism, a grudge against their parents, etc.)
No, this sorceress is eager to test her strange spells on anyone young and impressionable. She's more of the magical version of a mad scientist than a witch.
Key item: One of the spells turns children into strange new animals/creatures that reflect their personalities.

message 80: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Weber (lissa_weber) | 136 comments ((Sorry, R.S, should be 108 :D))

109) It's the largest battle of the century! It's you versus.... YOU! Is it a mirror copy of you? Or are you fighting an internal battle? Who will win? Which side is really you?

Key Item: If the other you are fighting is a tangible being, try to reason with them before fighting. If it's intangible, like a tough choice, then personify it! Give each idea boxing gloves and lets see them in the ring!

message 81: by Unknown poet (Anna) (last edited Jul 18, 2017 06:26AM) (new)

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 110. You are arrested for a crime that you didn't commit. You are kept in a prison cell, and given the bare minimum amount of food and water. The man who watches you and asks questions never actually tells you what crime you are found guilty of. You are moved around a lot. You ask when your sentence is over, but the man never answers. You start to get suspicious of whether or not this man is a police officer.

Key item: have the audience know what crime the character was charged with. Have the character commit the crime while escaping from the man.

111) As a princess living in the Medieval Times, there are many expectations for you. You’re getting tired of being so scrutinized, and of having your every move watched. Besides, if they keep watching you much longer, they could find out your secret… The one that could destroy the kingdom if it came out.
You have wings.

Key item: The kingdom fights with winged beings all the time. Dragons, fairies, enchanters and enchantresses.. You could be banished simply for being different.

message 83: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 07, 2017 04:44PM) (new)

112. It's the 1940's. You, your sibling, and your three cousins are staying together for the summer. One day, you witness something strange in the woods. Will you solve the mystery?
Key item: Give the story an old-fashioned, nostalgic atmosphere. If you've read the Boxcar Children series, Nancy Drew, or anything similar, take inspiration from that.

message 84: by Unknown poet (Anna) (last edited Jul 18, 2017 06:35AM) (new)

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 113. After 12 years of her life, a girl finds out that her father is not the respected king that she's been told he is. He is a cruel dictator. She doesn't agree with what her father is doing. What happens when she confronts him?

Key item: The girl tries to flee the country. What does she bring with her? Is she caught? She knows four languages.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 114. Get a random magazine (National Geographics work pretty well) flip through and find a few interesting pictures. Use these to form a setting. Then find some interesting people to form characters. Find some objects that you could use in your piece too.

Key item: Find some words that stand out to you, and use that as the title.

message 86: by Catherine, Blazing Reader (new)

Catherine (catherine_mooncakes) | 1797 comments Mod
115) Born on a farm, you don’t expect anything exciting in life. You’ll take charge of the farm when you’re older, and there’s no reason to expect otherwise. One day, a strange lady who visits the farm asks for your help. You refuse. As the days continue, you start to get bored and when she appears again, you accept. What did she ask? Where does the journey take you?

Key item: Your character meets someone along the way (that they find extremely annoying) that insists on coming with them. Use this character to break up heavy scenes with comedy.

message 87: by Catherine, Blazing Reader (new)

Catherine (catherine_mooncakes) | 1797 comments Mod
116) The fairies of Vrede live near a small mountain town. They generally avoid them, as the town believes fairies do not exist; however, one day a young fairy interferes with the precious balance between the two habitations. A potion that they should not know exists is given to a townsperson, and everything starts to go horribly wrong.

Key item: It's a love potion.

message 88: by TessaMarie (new)

TessaMarie Beard | 54 comments 118) Write a story form the point of view of an inanimate object, with the whole thing being in 2nd person, as if the object is talking to you
Key Items: Include mention of the "death" of another object.

message 89: by Catherine, Blazing Reader (new)

Catherine (catherine_mooncakes) | 1797 comments Mod
It’s been eight months since the incident, including several months of physical therapy and you’re finally healthy again. After this declaration, you return home happily; however, you soon find something out: The person responsible for your injury has been cleared of all charges. What was the crime? Does your character actually believe he was innocent?

Key item: Keep the reader in suspense by not revealing the crime until the end.

123) One day you lose your balance and you fall. You fall hard. You hadn't planned for this. Now what? The damage is done. Doc says it isn't good. It could even be permanent. How do you react? Anger, denial, surrender, hopelessness? Will you recover? How does this affect your life?

Key Item: Use your plot twist muscles. Make it something unexpected. Surprise the reader. Find a creative way to address the prompt.

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) | 190 comments 124) In an attempt to silence your parents, you and your sister were kidnapped. They keep asking you things about your parents that you have no clue about. Somehow you escape. Where are you? How do you get back home?

Key item: be sure to reunite mother and children at the end.

message 93: by bubblewaffles (new)

bubblewaffles | 30 comments 125) You aren't your average girl. You are a part-time barista at Starbucks and her city's hero's talentless sidekick. You think that you aren't appreciated until you are kidnapped by Esme Astraea, the city's main problem The Pharoah's second-in-command. At first, you wish to get back to the hero, Sebastian Levi, only until you discover the undying love that The Pharoah is willing to commit. To make matters more complicated, Esme seems to have feelings for you as well. Which side are you on, and most importantly, who will you choose?

Key Item: Make each side of love as tempting as possible.

Coralie (corkybookworm) | 1249 comments Mod
126) Your character is lost in the jungle. He/she's never been out in the wilderness on their own, especially not for any extended period of time. How does the character react? Does he whine and jump at every noise? Is he secretly a Tarzan kind of character? Does he read a lot and feel confident that he can survive? Who or what does he meet along the way? How does your character live through the experience and reunite with civilization? Or does he survive at all?

Key Item: Your character may have spent some time in the wilds, but not this specific jungle, and not for any substantial amount of time. Explain how your character got there in the first place.
