Dark Matter
question
the extra Jasons

Have any other readers of this very interesting book struggled to fully understand where the extra Jasons came from?
I actually thought it was foreshadowed. He becomes so oddly obsessed in the slightly off realities. He even stalks. One reality, he breaks in and stares at another version of Jason and Daniela while they sleep, having all sorts of ugly thoughts. That questionable obsession is why Amanda left. He was eventually forced to face what that obsession looked like.
I'm not sure you understood most of the book if the extra Jasons were confusing, Since this encompasses string theory and its pretty clear about multiple realities it makes sense that many Jasons would have a string of events that would lead them to make similar decisions to lead to the same reality even though that was probably not his Daniella since there were infinite other Daniella missing the same Jason.
Initially, yes. But think about it this way- there are an infinite number of doors, therefore there are an infinite number of Jasons. Since this world is the one these Jasons originated in ("our" Jason along with any others that came after he was taken) then this is the world they would all want to go back to in order to find Daniela. Actually, it's kind of surprising there weren't more Jasons, but I assume that many were never able to find this world.

Another interesting thought is that the actual quantum mechanics hypothesis that predicts the many worlds, requires that a new universe is created at

Exactly, after our Jason leaves his world, there are an infinite number of worlds being made that could be classed as his, but each with different trajectories. This idea that there are more than one should have been better explained in the book.
My problem with the book is that the multiverse exists regardless of Jason. He just makes the box.
So, whenever anyone, not just Jason, makes a choice it creates another possible reality. In this case, why would so many Jasons come "home" to the main character Jason's world instead of their world, as the choice that made them possible, should have also made their worlds real and reachable as well?

That's the part that gets me. Basically, Jasons wife had to leave a bunch of versions of him which are technically the person she fell in love with. The whole premise of multi-universes emphasize that our decisions impact the path that we take.

Yes, I just finished the book and am confused. I understand that they somehow found their way to the box Jason2 created and got to the main Jason's Chicago, but what I don't get is why some of them seemed to have the same connection to Daniella and Charlie as the main Jason. How do we know who is deserving of spending the rest of their live with them? What if the story was written from another Jason's perspective? Also, how did they all travel to the same place at once?

I thought the book did a pretty good and interesting job of it. All of the Jasons are actually the exact same Jason, up until he was kidnapped, after which they went off on their own universes. and each of them started having independent histories. So it's true that none of them has any greater claim on Daniella than any other. But they all have a greater claim than the Jason that did the kidnapping. Daniella said as much when she chose this one because he was the one that "found her" first. Kind of an arbitrary choice if she didn't believe in fate. But it could be told from any of the other Jasons point of view and would be equally valid (Sequel maybe :)
Just finished the book. Good story but man he dropped the ball at the last moment.
SPOILERS!!!!
It absolutely makes sense that there were a lot of Jasons. In fact, we would see an infinite number of Jasons come in to that reality. Even if the forking Jasons had a very miniscule probability of finding this universe, it's still infinity times that small probability which still results in infinity.
That means that there's no stopping the amount of Jasons coming. Eventually the world would be over populated by these Jasons. That would have been so awesome to explore. Way better than a cheesy Hollywood ending.
Also, this guy is a physics professor. There is an obvious solution to this dilemma. Get more ampules and look for a world where Jason2 got lost in the woods and mauled by a bear and get in that world. Jason would get back to her family, no killing, no nothing. Just a small hiccup. He'll you could even make yourself a millionaire, avoid any negatives from your life.
Think about it some more and the realize that it doesn't matter. Infinity makes it so that nothing matters.
Also, the main character in the story is no different than any other of the Jasons. They are the same person. Why would he get to keep the family? No one Jason is more original than any other except for Jason2 who is quite different. All the others share 99.99% of their life with only a few days of difference.
Hell why not duplicate the family as well. That would solve the issue right away.
I just feel that the setup was so good and the conclusion was so meh. Could have explored infinity way more.

How can multiple jason’s go to the one world his is without the formula?
Spoilers!!!
The extra Jasons are just a continuation of the theory outside the box, applied inside the box/corridor. If every decision we make creates another possible reality, it does not matter how big or small those decisions are, there is another reality where the person chooses differently. A simple yes or no choice would create at least two “Jasons”, one who said yes and one who said no.
When Jason and Amanda were in the corridor, let’s say Jason thought about saying something to Amanda and chose not to. He made a decision in that moment. Another Jason may choose to say the thing on his mind. Another one may choose to say the thing, but reword it or deliver it in a different manner. Another Jason may decide to change the subject entirely.
That one thought listed here, could have created 4 different Jason’s all whom were in the corridor searching for the same reality. Who are all essentially the same person, accept one small difference.
It really makes you think about the number of decisions you make in one day and how each one of those can change the trajectory of your life even when they appear to be seemingly small decisions/choices.

I do believe there is a certain amount of suspension of disbelief with this story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
With infinite options of whom his wife might have become, he chose the one that was closest to the family he knew. Regardless if it was in fact a lottery winning type of anomaly or if he was always getting closer by recognizing his faults is really up to the reader.
