Kylara Jensen | 437 comments Just a heads up Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple has parts set in antartica which will be a hard one to get probably.

Speaking of that book, how much of the book has to be set in a continent for it to count.

message 4: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments That's good to know. :) How much of the book is set there? The whole book wouldn't have to be, but it should be more than just a page or two of the story.

message 5: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments I would say at least 1/4 of the book? It's hard to say, because a lot of the book is also about planning to go there. But it's also hard to say bc the book is epistolary: written in letters emails and transcripts.

message 6: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I would say that's fine, Kylara.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Well I've got a book for each setting and almost one for every author. Just missing Africa and Antarctica. :/

message 8: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments You don't have to find an author from Antarctica, it's excluded from that category. :)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Yay. Then I'm just missing an African author. :)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Also a hint for those of you who are struggling to find settings. If there is no 'official' setting like with some books where they list the characters and setting and such. But it has some kind of setting mentioned in the blurb. Such as "Deep in the Kalahari Desert, a Corpus lab protects a dangerous secret…
But what happens when that secret takes on a life of its own?"

If you aren't sure if The Kalahari Desert is a real place or a made up place it's worth while to search it. I found out that the Kalahari Desert is a real place and it's set in Africa! :D

It really can be. I've had to search extensively sometimes online for the Locations A-Z for another group. It's one of the reasons I was able to come up with this hint. :)

True. Right now all my planned reads are North American. So maybe I can plan for next month to specifically only read NON North American books. :)

Well two of the books I need for Setting are part of a series. So I can read that. Some of the others I have to find either online or at my library and that could take a while so that gives me some more time. :)

message 21: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Bookbuyer: Looks like you've got a pretty good and solid reading plan going.:) I'm sure you'll get through them all in three months as you get through at least half of that in a month.

message 22: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments That's handy that two of the books in a series can fit two categories here.:)

I'm hoping to read at least half of these this month and then maybe get to the other half in November. Then maybe in December I can start again. :D

message 24: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Good hint Bookbuyer.:)I also use listopia from time to time.:) Oh, I also have both those books so I might read those for the challenge.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Jackie wrote: "That's handy that two of the books in a series can fit two categories here.:)"

Yup. I'm still trying to figure out where the second one takes place. Since the other two are NON North American I believe I can expect the second one to be as well which will definitely be useful. :)

message 26: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Second books seems to take place in a made up place. :(

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Jackie wrote: "That would be cool if you could start over.:)"

I'm REALLY hoping to since I have a ton of North American books for both Setting and Author and I want to be able to use them. :)

I actually listed the continents by order of difficulty. Obviously Antarctica is nearly impossible unless you read Non Fiction and even then it's pretty hard. African is also really hard since I haven't been able to find more than one or two I would want to read.

Australia is a bit easier than I thought it would be since one of my top 100 Adult authors turns out to be Australian and her books are set in Australia.

I've been reading more books from Asia lately as well so that one is relatively easy.

One of my favorite authors is releasing a book set in Ireland this year which is atypical so I'm really happy since I can include that. :)

message 30: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments North America is definitely an easy one. For setting or author.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments C P wrote: "North America is definitely an easy one. For setting or author."

Yup.

I've just re-read the rules and now Asia will also be super easy since I can read manga for that! :D

message 32: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I find North America and England to be pretty easy in terms of setting and author. Which author do you like that's from Austrailia?

Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian #1) by Keri Arthur Keri Arthur. I haven't read her books for a couple of years but I loved her a few years ago! :D

Europe is third on my list. After North America and Asia now that I've remember manga. :)

message 35: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments North America and Europe are probably my most read. I've also read several authors from Australia.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments C P wrote: "North America and Europe are probably my most read. I've also read several authors from Australia."

Australia was a surprise for me. A lot of the authors I found I had automatically assumed were American. Even when I was reading Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian #1) by Keri Arthur I never realized it was set in Australia!! O.O

Thank goodness I found Goodreads. It's a fountain of information! :D

message 37: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments It really is. :) You know, I rarely notice where an author is from or even where something is set unless I have a specific reason to do so.

Yeah, me too. I only notice books set in London because of the language used there.
I agree that North America and Europe are the easiest for me.

Same. Unless there's a specific landmark or specific accent/word choice then I tend to just automatically assume American since 90% of what I read is American :/

message 40: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I've never really thought about it before, but I don't think I really assume anything unless I'm specifically told where something is set. I do however assume that all authors are North American. Unless they are writing a book set in a different country, in which case I assume they are from that country.

I sometimes assume that as well. But since a majority of what I read now if Fantasy it's very difficult to tell where the author is from except for word choice (American/Canadian or English spelling/word choice).

I was very surprised though to find a recent book I read Risuko A Kunoichi Tale (Seasons of the Sword #1) by David Kudler was American although his name suggest that he is at least probably not Japanese. :/

message 44: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Stevens (larn12) | 13 comments I'm not sure if this was discussed earlier, but can a book count for two categories? Like a book by an English author set in England? Or do we need 13 separate books? Don't want to accidentally cheat. :)

message 45: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Good question. It should be a separate book for each category. So 13 books in total. :)

message 46: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments The book I had on hold for Asia (setting) has come in and I get to pick it up tomorrow! I'm really excited! :D

message 47: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments I also might have to move my books around a bit or change some. Since I started Gifted Thief (Highland Magic, #1) by Helen Harper which works for both Europe (setting) and Asia (author). :)
