karine was born in a quaint yet charming town in the south of france to her father, a constantly working yet loving businessman, and her mother, a kind and gentle woman who died while giving birth to karine. while her father was running his business, the young child would stay at home and play with her dolls along with her babysitter or whoever was taking care of her. being both a wealthy and only child caused her to be quite spoiled, though she can still act kind and isn't nearly as bad as most of the girls at vanderbilt.

she schooled at a small and expensive school at france for many years, though when the time came to go to high school, she decided she wanted a bit of a change. since karine knew both fluent french and english, she chose to go to vanderbilt academy. it was one of the highest ranked schools on the globe, and her mother had gone there for six years as an teenager.

soon, she fit right in. though she modeled from time to time, she was sorted into diamond for her wit that exceeded most and allowed do well in her academic work. her father gifted her thousands a month, so she enjoyed shopping in wilmington, and she even made some friends along with a couple of enemies. during the summers, she models as well, and has starred on the covers of various popular magazines, too. her life is pretty stable and enjoyable, and she hopes to keep it that way.

karine has a dry sense of humor, using sarcasm to her defense quite often, and she is even viewed as apathetic by some people. the truth is, she has emotions, but finds that showing them leads to much unneeded drama and makes her seem either annoying or immature. although she keeps her feelings to herself, she doesn't mind getting attention, as long as it's self beneficial.

[ s ] mart doesn't seem to cover it. It might have cut it when she was ten, but she isn't exactly the same blonde bobbed little girl she was then. Her mind has grown as much as she has, and it's been doing some real growth. Her first venture into science was when she was six, and playing at kiddy models of molecules that were supposedly "far past her understanding". She could go on the record and very accurately recall people saying that she would likely fall in line with her mother. Which, would probably be quite disheartening if this was told to any other child, since her mother was a drunkard on the verge of a drug problem.

This wan't something that would stop her, considering she wasn't just any other child. Prompted with proving others wrong, as she enjoyed doing on other occasions. Through this, it only seemed to be that her personality took root. Her slightly confrontational manner came from countless arguments with older, "more competent" engineers of various fields. Tenacity might as well have been a product of that, too. But it doesn't quite explain her inability to fully form her thoughts at time. It's believed that this may be a symptom of some sort of deficiency or malfunctioning in the brain.

Everyone has off days, sure, but not like Darianne has. Not the kind where suddenly her IQ drops south of 70 and she can't get something to work right. And then all of sudden it's back and she knows what she's doing. They think it could be genetic, improper growth in the brain due to alcoholism of her mother during pregnancy. Darianne doesn't quite understand what it is either, but part of her latest research has been figure out what the hell is wrong with her.

[ a ] s is expected of any of the Baron women, or anyone associated with them, Clotel--excuse moi, it's Raquelle or Rocky for the layperson--is fairly untouchable. Most people would see her as someone entirely unapproachable, and most don't. They're certainly content to watch from afar. She is quite something to watch, after all. But getting close to her can be intimidating. She's got a certain quiet intensity that tends to scare most people off. But it's not like she cares about that sort of thing. She's, for lack of better words, cool. Like, tundra level cool. So cool she could freeze you on the spot. And a lot of people look up to that. They like the elegance she has, and how charming she can be if you get to hear her say two words or more to you. And if you're a friend, you get the luxury of hear her call you "boo" in her sweet accent. If you were ever to ask her where she got it from, she would make you guess. Everyone likes a little bit of a challenge, yeah?

Other than her coolness, a lot of people would know that she's a feminist queen. Not the mainstream kind that only seeks to defend a certain group of females, but the inclusive kind. She's all for the right of choice and protection of women, be they white or of color, straight or gay, cis or trans. She's revolutionary in that she has left school to join protests nearby for whatever right she agrees with. She shows up and she shows out. And yes, she will proudly admit she's been escorted away in plastic cuffs before. Because it's not a protest meant for change if that doesn't happen at least once. While she might have relied on her family, she's very much her own individual. She takes pride in her independence. She doesn't rely on others very often, and when she does it's only in extreme conditions. Rocky doesn't enjoy getting other people mixed up in her drama, after all.

What most people would be shocked to hear, if they ever found out, is that Rocky doesn't have a whole lot of experience in certain areas of life. While she does have the knowledge to make up for it, she hasn't actually experienced some of it. She might seem like it, though. Rocky would never deny or confirm it if she was asked. Some might think that she has some grand idea of saving herself for marriage. But, she doesn't. She has no problems with that idea, but that was never her intention. She merely has found anyone that suits her tastes or lives up to her standards. She's something of what you would call a dominatrix. And not many people can get with that, you know?

Remember that whole thing about Rocky being intimidating? It's not helped at all that she looks like she could kill you on most occasions. Regardless of what she wears, there's a lethal quality to it. Usually because everything she wears screams "sharp and dangerous" aside from being very pretty. But she would never actually hurt someone. She doesn't really have it in her to do any serious harm to someone. Not unless you piss her off, of course, but all other times she would like to not lay hands on people. She's always liked things that made her feel powerful.

[ t ] iffany Baron had always been a tough woman. Hailing from the 9th Ward in New Orleans, she'd bounced back from a series of disappointments before. She'd lost her home in the French Quarter shortly before heading off to college, where she would have to drop out because of insufficient funds. Working overtime to pay for her own education didn't seem to cut it for the small university she attended. But she didn't think too much about it. It was when she was laid off from the steel mill that she felt despair. Having been employed fresh from her second year of college, she had expected at least a few more years in the mill. So, like many of her other co-workers, she headed out to the bar.

It was here in this cesspool of despair that she met Pallas. Heavily liquored, she followed him into the bathroom when he beckoned her forward. From that singular interaction came a pregnancy. Tiffany was still a young woman, only twenty-five. She didn't think she could take care of a child on her own, especially not after she had been laid off from her only source of income. She huffed it back to the 9th Ward, hitchhiking and using what little money she had left to take cabs as far as they would. When she returned home, she was greeted with the comforting arms of her equally tough family.

Clotel was named by her grandmother, a professor of African American Literature. Not exactly the most popular class, but still something that she was paid for. As it was her only class to teach, she often spent time with the young girl that her daughter birthed. Tiffany herself had taken to job hunting and working double shifts at a restaurant in the French Quarter to save up. Still referred to as Clotel, Rocky grew up in the presence of strong and intelligent women. They had their own opinions and thoughts and voiced each and every one without consequence. It was no wonder that Rocky grew to be who she is.

Through some connections, though, word came about that Rocky could be in line for greater things. Her father was supposedly some big shot come back to call. Her reaction to it, at ten years old, was distrust. Someone who'd disappeared from her life should have no right to come back into it at all, but her mother allowed him no less. Pallas never married Tiffany. It was a fact he made clear from the moment he came back. He already had a wife at home. Instead, he wanted to do something for the offspring he'd forgotten and this was basically to pretend he cared. It was a self-serving relationship in which he fantasied about being someone better than he was.

But, despite it all, it was he who brought up the idea of Vanderbilt. Tiffany had always thought her daughter could do great things, even as someone so young. But Rocky would not have it. She remained in the same school until she was sixteen, when they noted that there was a special need for her to be somewhere else. They thought her problematic, even with how smart she was. It just didn't do for the school board to have their authority challenged by a teenager. But she still didn't want to go to Vanderbilt. If it was anything like what her father promised, it would be a place she hated. So, she spent a year being bounced between schools.

Finally, her mother had had enough. She packed Rocky up and sent her off to Vanderbilt, much to the girl's chagrin.

Jaden was bred from an arranged marriage of the R&B and Hip-Hop Label, billionaire business man William Knight and Dutch sweetheart Melinda Adelheid. Both were from rich families, so their wealth was put together in an alliance of marriage. Their daughter was spoiled from her first day on earth, always given what she wanted and praised for absolutely everything. Maybe that's why she's such a bitch? Not long after Jaden was born, her mother passed on abruptly, after having disappeared for months. Apparently she was on some monk retreat, and was pushed off a cliff during her time there. Jaden's father denies having had any part in her death. However, he remarried a pop star not long after causing speculation.
Jaden had started her career in the lime light early, doing cover shoots for magazines, acting roles in short films and music videos.
In order to get noticed as not only a billionaires daughter but as a legit figure, Jaden started bumping her way to the top, starting fights, exposing people, spreading rumors. Word about her spread like wild fire across the media, and she became a well known figure in the model industry as an "Honest to goodness Diva"
Despite being known by the press as a future star, the girl had other plans. Jaden was next in line to be out in charge of Knight Records, the label that her father presently owned. The label started during the Harlem Renaissance with Jaden's great-great granddaddy Robinson Knight Jr. and was passed down generation after generation until it was William Knight's to call his own. Jaden was angered that her father might not pass the label down to her, so she took matters into her own hands and broadened her knowledge of running a company, business ethics and she became more involved with the entertainment community. Her father was impressed, but still was unsure if Jaden could handle the label. So he sent her to Vanderbilt High, for the elite and wealthy. The girl wasn't too excited to be going back to school, but if it meant she could pull the label out from under her father before he gave it away, the girl was willing. Plus, she probably wouldn't have to do any work anyways. Before Jaden left to go to school, her father fell ill after having convulsions, he was lucky to be alive afterward. Traces of cyanide were found inside of him. Jaden denies having any part in her father's near-death situation.

Ever since she was a child, Jaden was a little bitch. She would throw tantrums, gossip, fight and fuss. Now she's even worse. She'd stab you in the back as soon as you'd turn around, and then she'd turn you back over so she could smile in your face as you bled out. She doesn't give a shit if your feelings get hurt. Don't call her mean or nasty or rude, oh no, call her her rightful name. Bitch. She likes it that way.

God help us all if Jaden doesn't get what she wants. The girl is so used to getting everything she wants and more, that the second she is denied something, she snaps and gos crazy in a fit of rage.

Jaden isn't nearly an air head, it takes a lot of brains to scheme up plans. She is highly educated, so don't try and test her. Looks may deceive honey, but this girls means business and she'll tackle any problem you set in front of her. I mean really, you call that a challenge?

Sam is the resident mystery of Vanderbilt. Nobody really knows that much about him, other than that his parents are even more loaded than your average student's family — and that supposedly, he's been shipped off here to avoid becoming the family embarrassment.

What they don't know... there's a lot. First, Sam's family are supposedly descended from ancient Joseon royalty (which he doubts); second, he's here because if he stayed at home then people would have asked questions — and his father's never been known for his tolerance towards people who don't fit his world view.

Sam definitely doesn't fit his father's world view — let alone his ideal family. The pretty boy with the deep voice has two secrets that would have ruined his father's reputation if they got out: one, he's gay, and two, he's trans. Which in his opinion shouldn't be a big deal, but his dad cares very much because he finds Sam's very existence embarrassing. What kind of boy gets periods? The late Louis Leon Thornhill formed countless banks around the world an created a fast and effective financial system that revolutionised the manner in which banks conducted themselves. Since then the family has not ceased to expand its business. Needless to say, they have their hands in the pockets of a great many people and have an incalculable wealth.

♦♦♦Rosaline is the second child of the family's current head, Gianni Louis Thornhill the second and his wife, her grace, Amelia, Duchess of Northumberland. Her elder brother Roland Angelo Aurelius Thornhill is but a year older than Rosaline. In spite of their wealth which others aimlessly attempt to guess, the Thornhill family maintains a low profile while they execute their own agenda. The family takes pride in its secrecy, it allows them to live as normal people, albeit normal people with billions upon billions of dollars at the disposal of each individual.

The Thornhill family owned palaces across the globe, however, due to their father's busy schedule, Rosaline and Roland were raised by their mother Amelia who wished for her children to grow up where she did. He had no intention of being a bad father, in fact, he believed that his actions were to give his children a normal life, but the effect was quite the opposite. He was enamoured with the idea of privacy to such a point that when servers or housekeepers were in the room everyone was to be either silent or to speak only of world events in an entirely unbiased manner. Whilst his endeavours made the eyes and ears of the public far less prying they did make it somewhat difficult to befriend anyone beyond her brother and cousins.

♦♦♦As a couple more years passed he focused on his son Roland, the heir to the unquenchable fortune of house Thornhill. Amelia thought little of her own title, it was but unto addition to her own name and whilst wealthy her family hadn't the same volume of sheer fortune and assets that the Thornhills had that made them one of the, if not the wealthiest family in the world. He was being groomed and Rosaline was left to her mother. She learned about fashion, social graces and compassion, she even learned to speak not only English but Italian, French and German seeing as much of her family was from the corresponding countries. Nevertheless, she always was curious about her brother's lessons from her father. Roland seemed to know just about everything and he carried himself with dignity like her father's. Every now and then he would tell her a bit about what he learned and whilst much of it was admittedly quite dull, rosaline found she was quite good at mathematics and accounting.

♦♦♦Eventually, Roland was enrolled in an expensive boarding school somewhere of the coast. Her father had once again seemingly vanished, having returned to business. In all reality he has no need to work another day in his life, the Thornhills had enough money to keep them wealthy for many generations to come, but he was ambitious and sought to further expand their fortune. There was a year-long period in which she had some freedoms under her mother's care. It was after that that her father enrolled her in the same school as her brother in hopes that she could maintain status and do some networking with the children of various socialites and businessmen like himself. He expected she still maintained privacy, however, her mother gave her a single instruction, which was to enjoy herself.
