On my research trip to Paris I got to hang around places like the bar at Hotel George V. Here are some notes:
- Two beautiful gay men at the bar, one fortyish, one thirtyish. Traveling for a while. "We're just in from Prague and 'Roma'."

- We sit at a table beside bar … there are two black paisley couches, with black enamel arms under bookcase full of old books, paintings of horses and hounds, a clubby old monied look

- We are served glasses of wine and freshly baked pastry cheese sticks at 3 in the afternoon

- A large table with a French family in jeans by window. Well behaved French children having Cokes

- Flowers in the lobby and outside the door: huge bunches of deep pink hydrangea with matching gladiolas and orchids. Some are 6 feet high, in black rectangular ‘urns’ of different heights. Very Paris modern.

- Waiter does a sell job to try to get us to sit at the bar. “You can be clubby and chat with the bartender … wouldn’t you like that?” He is suave, a James Bond stand in

What's your favorite Paris memory?

Baylan Megino | 1 comments Well, I haven't been to Paris YET, but when I think of Paris, three things come to mind:

1) my daughter went there as her high school graduation present,

2) that scene with Big in the last Sex and the City, and

3) a passage in a book (title and author forgotten) describing the baked goods from a small bakery -- made my mouth water!

And didn't MFK Fisher live there at some point?
Didn't Julia study there?
Didn't Jacques Pepin come from Paris?

Food and fashion = Paris!

My question for you: Where do you go for quiet spots to read when in San Francisco?

Would love to have a cup of coffee with you :-)

All the best,
Baylan Megino
