Monique (perigrine) | 49 comments this is probably the wrong area (please direct me to the right one, if one exists), but I have my email notifications set to DIGEST. But, somehow, I am still getting tons of emails. Each email saying I wont get NEW emails until I visit the forum again, and yet, just then while I was reading an email, I got another one. Obviously this bombardment isn't ideal and I want to stop it, but not permanently. (I wonder if the 'abandoned' threads have authors who get sick of email notifications.)

Whats happening here?

You need to ask about this in the Feedback Group. This group has no control over email notifications.

MJ | 1613 comments You've probably already tried, but JIC. Click through to your account settings and then the 'email' tab. Make sure all the settings are as you want them... there are all lot, and your groups are down the bottom. I've found sometimes I've still got one random one in the wrong spot. Also, at the bottom of each thread you go in, there's the "Follow this Discussion" options. Mine currently says 'You are following all discussions or this group (no emails - notifications only) edit.

I've done that, and every time I go to a new thread, it says "add to my update feed" and "notify me when people reply" both return to being ticked. I may be seeing it 'all the time' coz I'm reading threads and just finding new ones.

I'll look again, since nothing seems to be sticking.

ETA: nope, both this group and the other group I'm in are still set to digest. This part is "When discussions I subscribe to with “digest” have new posts, email me; Daily"

MJ | 1613 comments That sounds the same for me too, in the individual threads. Two checkboxes ready ticked, but I think you can change that in the email screen if you want.

Except in the background I just have everything on notifications only. Higher up the emails list I've got a few immediate emails, but I remember being driven mad by the instant emails ages ago too. Pretty sure that was how I fixed it tho :/.

ok..I might have fixed it. I went to *this* groups actual home page - https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... - to 'edit membership' - down to the bottom of the page were it says "GROUP DISCUSSION UPDATE EMAILS" - "edit group discussion updates" - and on THAT page was a whole PILE of buttons, all set to 'individual emails'. Then ticked millions to 'none' (except the ones I want). If you refresh the page the 'none' ticked ones disappear.

Hopefully that will stop me having 35 one comment emails in the morning.

They make it difficult to find the list of Topics I'm Following in Group for our group. Here's a quick link:

That's awesome Kris! I've been looking for something like that for years... Every time I want to find a thread again to bump, check or update, I've been going thru 'My Comments' and scrolling down, but as we know, it only shows the group and the comment, not the thread, which is why I'm always adding a little (descriptor) in brackets so I have some idea what which comment it fo which thread. I've now bookmarked it, cause we all know I'd never remember how to find it again later ;) THX

You're welcome, MJ. I stumbled across that page not long ago. I use a secondary email account for Goodreads which I never check. Until the other day when I found a *gazillion* notifications waiting for me. I tried turning them off using the Account Settings: Email preferences page, but it didn't work.

You can also get to the Topics I'm Following in Group page by clicking the Edit email notifications link in the notification emails (the ones I get are titled "Comment from _______").

And thanks to Monique for starting this discussion.

Mrsbooks | 269 comments I contacted goodreads to see if there was a way to have it set so that when you click the "Notify me when people reply" button that the default setting is automatically "notification only."

They didn't seem to understand the question and told me to change my email settings. Except every single thing in my email settings is set to NO email lol.

I just find it really hard to remember, after I've commented to change that option all the time. I feel so bombarded with emails. But it is getting better! I am starting to remember more often.
