Challenge Corner discussion

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

So, I started this before the thread was up, and I kind of couldn't stop reading and may have finished it already... I was keeping my thoughts on another thread though, so here you go!

Up to act one, scene 14 (view spoiler)[ So far, I'm hugely disappointed. Scorpius is the only character I even vaguely like. The original characters seem to have completely different personalities. The writing is so cringey. Ughhh, my little heart is breaking (hide spoiler)]

Up to act 2, scene 11 (view spoiler)[ I'm still not a massive fan of the writing, but the plot is growing on me. Time travel always messes with my head, it's so confusing, but I do kind of love it. So I'll be interested to see how Albus tries to fix this mess! (hide spoiler)]

Up to act 3, scene 8 (view spoiler)[ I love that idea of the butterfly effect, how Cedric losing one challenge can so drastically alter the course of the world. Who knew he played such a big role? I don't like the way Umbridge has been presented though. She's awful, sure, but I don't know if she'd be that willing to work for Voldemort (hide spoiler)]

Up to part 2, act 4 (view spoiler)[ Ohmygod Delphi is so clever! Using the boys like that, and being Voldemorts secret daughter, and all these things I somehow didn't see coming. I'm so impressed! (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[ I'm really happy with the way the ending worked out! Sure, it was a little cheesy and predictable, but I'm still glad Albus and Harry have managed to work out their problems. Or at least start thinking about working out their problems. I actually really loved the relationship between them! (hide spoiler)]

Act 2 (view spoiler)[ why do they think stopping cedric from winnin in task one will help cedric stay alive?how did albus break his arm when he went back to the past?o.o what did albus mess up with travelling back to the past?and everytime they travel back 25 years.....they come out in an alternate dimension?sucks to be them (hide spoiler)]

Act 3 (view spoiler)[ gah that scene with snape made me want to cry.and how in that dimension harry is dead.at least they managed to set everything right though.albus is crazy going back in time twice.and why trust delphi so much?now she is trying to resurrect voldemort.....and she is his daughter?wtf? Act 4 (view spoiler)[ great plan albus had using harry's blanket to send harry a message on where they are.delphi is trying to stop voldemort and harry and the rest stop her just in time.thank god she didnt get to kill albus.yay harry and albus relationship is showing small signs of improvement at the end (hide spoiler)]

End of Act III Scene 10 (view spoiler)[ This was definitely a snooze fest, I guess maybe because if you’re watching the play itself you need a full bodied recap of the whole play so far? But as for us reading, I am flying through this play so I really don’t need a whole recap (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ So a few things I liked about this is a little more detail about what happened when Voldemort killed Harry’s parents, I liked to see the gang “all grown up” with adult duties and such. One thing I didn’t like was I felt like this was a little repetitive at times. Not nearly as good as the original series but for a diehard fan I will take anything I can get :) (hide spoiler)]

Restarting January 5th 2019 ***************

Act 1 (view spoiler)[ This is the third time I've read this book and the only way I can live with it is if I think of it as fanfiction not an official part of cannon. I laughed out loud when they suggested that Scorpius was Voldemorts son. I love love love Scorpius and I'm starting to like Albus more but none of the trio acts right in this book. I remember it gets better in the second half so there is hope. (hide spoiler)]

Act 2 (view spoiler)[ Oof this is cringy but a small part of me loves it so I'm going to focus on that. I really wish I could go back to a happier time before the internet ruined the Cursed Child for me. I really like Albus this time around and it's cracking me up that these sweet two boys think they can save Cedric. (hide spoiler)]

Act 3 (view spoiler)[ Surprise! Voldemort had a child! I'm not sure I buy it but I'll deal. The second half of this is so much more enjoyable. (hide spoiler)]

Act 4 (view spoiler)[ I have so many complex feelings about this book. There are certain canonical problems that are hard to look over but there are quite a few moments that fill me with joy. I really love that short scene with Ron and Hermione and I wish we could have seen more of their relationship because we really didn't get to see them be a couple in the series. The last scene of the book makes me so happy and I loved seeing Harry and Albus' relationship develop and change. Also, I love Scorpius Malfoy so much! "My geekness is aquivering" All in all, I like this book a lot more this time around and I'm going to focus more on the positive parts than the negative. (hide spoiler)]
