ANNOUNCEMENT:
Because Goodreads does not allow sub-threads within a folder, we are making the following change:

This group is for general Booktopia discussion, not related to a specific location/year. We will make general Booktopia announcements here, including city announcements and scheduling information.

Beginning with the 2014 Booktopia year, each individual event will have its own folder, which can then be divided into sub-folders. That is the place where we encourage you to continue the conversations started a Booktopia, including posting of book lists, author recommendations, follow-up on sessions, etc.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

If you're trying to add an image that isn't a book cover, you will have to use HTML. The image has to be sourced online, so you will need a URL to the picture you want to add. If the picture is on your computer, and not hosted online, I recommend creating a Photobucket account (where they will provide you with URLs to each photo you upload). As soon as you have this URL, insert it between the quotation marks here:
img src=""
then add a bracket to each end (< and >) and paste that into the text field.

Gerald Miller | 821 comments Linda thanks for that.can you do that with Picasa I have not used Photobucket for years. I'll try using photobucket. I still have an account.

You just need to have a URL for the photo, Gerald. If Picasa gives you that - you're in.

Hi Anna

You're not jumping too far ahead. This is around the time that we usually announce locations and dates for the following year.

Soon.... we promise!

Anna, don't worry, there are MANY of us BOTNSians (BOTNSites?) waiting with bated breath for the 2015 locations. Thanks for asking the question on our behalf!

Melissa | 279 comments Last year, I attended Booktopia Petoskey, and I fell in love with the Perry Stafford Hotel and the McLean and Eakin bookstore. My husband was unable to join me then, so this past weekend I took him to Petoskey. We stayed at the Perry Stafford, and spent several hours in the bookstore. We had a lovely time, and we are considering making this an annual trip.

Has anyone else revisited their Booktopia sites? Does anyone continue to shop (online or in person) at the Booktopia bookstores?

Sue | 415 comments I love that story and I really, really hope I get to go to a Booktopia someday!

Melissa, I would have to travel very close to an hour to find a bookstore, so I use the independent bookstores that Booktopia has introduced me to to order my books.

Strangely, I just discovered I have a gift card from McLean and Eakin that I forgot I had - it came in a book that I ordered since last Fall.

Janet (justjanet) | 791 comments I was just thinking how much I would love to go back to Santa Cruz for a weekend. And I don't even have Linda's excuse as I have 2 wonderful independent bookstores near me.

I love that you were able to revisit Petoskey.

I have ordered books from two of the Booktopia stores and also from Colgate Univ. Bookstore (Heather & Kate). Minor purchases but when I do buy I'd rather go to these than Amazon.

Lynne (lbrosch) | 9 comments I see people talking about wanting to go back to earlier Booktopia places because of bookstores. Yes, each one I have gone to has caused me to fall in love with that bookstore and want to move there. But also each one has been just as great as the last so I look forward to meeting new wonderful bookstore families in 2015!

Sarah Bramlett | 15 comments When will Booktopia make its way to Central Texas? I listen to the podcast and it sounds like so much fun but it's so far away!
