At this point I would be really surprised if Kingkiller is ever released. I also no longer care.

Seeing you catch up on ASOIAF makes me want to immediately jump into a reread of it.

It was fun re-reading #4 and then reading #5 finally but I struggled keeping the book storyline and the TV storyline straight.

Yep. Decoupling them isn't easy especially when characters are dead in one and not the other or entire sequences in the book were moved from one character to another......at times I was like wait...what? Did I fall asleep and miss a section.

is finally up to date."
Great work Scott. Like Niki said welcome to the waiting club.
I decided to stop watching the show until all the books are out (hopefully the book series is finished one day). I can imagine it would be a bit confusing when there are a lot of characters still alive in the books.

For me, nothing will be as good in that series as book two was. Tyrion planning, then the battle of the Blackwater. That was fantasy perfection.
The first two books were almost one long book in my mind. I mean when Ilyn Payne's axe came down that was my intro to GrimDark however many years ago and at that point I was still thinking it won't happen. The original holy shit moment.
The Price of Spring Long Price Quartet 4/4 is the 13th completed series for the challenge. All four books are 5* for me.
Bill wrote: "Nice job. I really need to start that series soon. D&C was really good."
I like it more than D&C and that was a good series.

Thanks. Yes getting rid of 350,000 words per month will do that. :)
Kind of nice three days in a row going UTD, finished and finished.

Bill's got me in terms of pure volume of books and series but I've finished off some series where the books are mammoth so I'm pretty happy with where I'm at while still having some competitive envy for all his achieved in whittling down his list. One month he had a combined UPD/Completed total of 15 series in 30 days. Insane.

Thanks. I feel better getting some of these long standing open series off my list and once I got back into the worlds I realized why I liked them and should have finished them so long ago.

I do that too sometimes. I don't know why I wait so long to finish some of them.
Sometimes I almost feel nervous about continuing on in a long series. And often once I get to a point where I can't not finish (ie/ book 7/10) even if it's not really satisfying me anymore

I think you need to make a decision on really long series like that early on. I know after two books I was all-in on Malazan and bailed at the same point on Dresdan. People are hung up on DNFing both books and series but if you're not having fun I say bail. My abandoned list is pretty long.

It's more series like Saxon Stories where there were some really great books in there but after a while it becomes formulaic

Agreed on your example. The good news about those is they're on audio and short so you can plow through them quickly.

I DNF series so easily. For books I try to stick it out, but I don't have time to read a mediocre 6 book series.

I'm having a hard time DNFing some of the ones I've been working through for a while. It's like I need some sort of payoff for spending that much time on them. I just need to consider a few sunk costs and move on.
I do think it's easier to DNF a series right after book one. Once you're a few in it's tough. I did bail on Redwall, another great example of Margret's formula series, after ten book. I also bailed on Dresdan after two books and quit Book of Babel (Senlin Ascends) in the middle of book two. I can't think of anything else I've given up on after that.
I think borderline book ones have been the reason I've waited so long sometimes to complete series. Even something like the Reckoners which I recently finally finished it took forever. It wasn't because Steelheart wasn't good. It was because I didn't need to know what happened. There was no great plot payoff.
Faithful and the Fallen Malice was good enough but again not blown away and over a year later I still can't bring myself to pay for book #2.

That happens to me a lot. I just lose interest even though I liked a book. It's why I still haven't read the third book in the Reckoners series.

This is happening to me right now with the Millennium’s Rule books halfway through book 2 and stopped, love the her books (Trudi Canavan) a lot but cant get into this trilogy

That's on my TBR. I've been waiting for book three to come out and for the library to purchase at least one of the second two books in the series.

Calamity is worth reading IMO. I think I liked it more than most. Save it for when you need a no thought required book. I was coming off some challenging reads and I think needing something easy made it better for me.

I think it's when I get into the book 5+ zone that I feel I need to finish it. And there's even just some series that I just can't justify paying for it if I'm not into it, so if the library doesn't have it then I go "guess I'm DNF-ing then". Like Dresden. Wasn't into it enough to switch to ebook vs audio, or pay for a series that I just wasn't digging

I have this problem too. Sometimes I wonder if I don't read the last book or couple in a series as I don't want the series to end.
I find I DNF less these days in that usually what I'm recommended seems to be so good. I do let friend reviews sometimes help me decide to move on in a series or bail out if I wasn't that in love with the first book.

I'm reading Dresden on audio and I'm liking it so far, but I don't know if I'll make it all the way to book 15 (and any more that come out).

Yes, I think I do that too! I have noticed that when I really love a series sometimes I can't make myself read the last book for a while.

I will eventually get to it.
Reign of Iron and the Iron Age trilogy is completed. 15th completed series of the challenge. I'm down to 16 open series although I will be opening 4 due to buddy reads in the next month.
Iron Age was just ok. I'm mildly disappointed because I kept thinking it would be great.
