Carmel Audsley (httpwwwoursyoursandmineswebscom) | 44 comments Can people live too long? Should you be allowed to suffer if you are terminally ill? Should grown children take some responsibility for their parents' welfare? These are questions that face a society with an ageing population. My latest novel, 'The Last Hurrah', is a departure from my historical fiction novels. It is a contemporary novella about a devoted couple who are both living with terminal illnesses. They try to tell their children but they are all too busy with their own lives, so they decide to take one last cruise in the South Pacific - and not return. They go out on their terms. The book is a work of fiction but tackles a serious issue. I have felt uncomfortable promoting this book for fear of offending people but I have had good feedback from readers who have been moved by the thought-provoking subject. If you read this book, would it prompt you to call your elderly parents just to check on them?
