Anyyyyway ... hope to have fun here!

I am a middle school math teacher for most of the year. I am involved in a small monthly book club with some friends but found this Challenge group today while searching for some ideas.
Great idea and the tasks are so varied; I am really looking forward to the Fall Challenge and I am going to suggest it to the teachers at my school to get involved. There are a lot of readers on my campus.
I wish we had a school librarian to come up with something like this for the kids.
Thanks Cynthia!

I used to keep track of my books on Visual Bookshelf on Facebook, but was looking for a site with a little more "substance" and found Goodreads-and I love it! The Summer Reading Challenge is such a cool idea. Can't wait to discover some new books to read!

I just tore through Steig Larsson's Millenium trilogy (which I'm glad to see can be helpful in this Challenge) in the last 2-ish weeks, have spent about a month or so trying to get into Possession by A.S. Bryant and was given The Help by Kathryn Stockett by a friend recently. I read quickly (too quickly, but I can't help it) and am excited to get started on this!
Cheers!

Cathy

The rest I spend here on Goodreads...
And Christy, I used to go to school in Waco, an hour and a half south of Dallas. Have fun with the heat.

My partner actually bought me a Nook for our anniversary and it has only fed my habit more. I can't wait to hop in on the Fall challenge (as Fall and Winter are my absolute favorite seasons).
Nice to meet you all, and please, please please, no lawyer jokes ;)

Hey what's a Nook?

Its the Barnes and Noble version of a Kindle. Its just much more open in terms of formats and sources and has expandable memory.

It is very easy to handle! I own one myself and love it as well. I also bought my mom one. It is very user friendly for the most part (rarely any problems). They just became cheaper too (in the last month or so). I like that they are compatible with libraries that offer ebooks, even if my own library doesn't have it.

I second what she said. I actually have a few hundred books on it that were in the public domain (from gutenberg.org).

Astrangerhere - I, too, received a Nook this summer and though I have been burning through library epub downloads, I cannot figure out how to get the Gutenberg books loaded. Can you help? I promise, no lawyer jokes (I'm one too...) A

I can't decide if I want to call you Delicious or Book Slut - I love them both - and I absolutely agree with the download, plugging in and dragging - it's just that I've tried two different texts and neither one seems to want to show up in my library. I'm waiting to open an important Word doc and find the Kama Sutra hiding somewhere in the middle :)

I also have a Nook and use my library's ebook collection all the time. But I've also downloaded books from project Gutenberg (although I'm replacing most of those with the ones B&N are giving away each week: www.bn.com/freelibrary). To get the Gutenberg books on my Nook, I download the epub version of the books and use a program called Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/) to manage them. You transfer the books to the Nook using the USB and they show up in your documents (not your B & N library). Calibre makes it really easy. Hope that helps!

I have a Kindle that only helps my incessant reading, along with shelves of books and a habit of visiting the local bookstores regularly.
I'm excited about these challenges, as they give me motivation to read different books. It also feels a little like the bingo reading game that I used to enjoy from my local library back in elementary school! Can't wait for the fall challenge to start.

There are a number of Sara's participating in the Challenge so you'll need to decide what you want your Readerboard name to be.

I'm the mom to two boys-Jack, 4 and Sam, who will be 1 on 9/11. I live just south of Boston, MA and I'm a social worker in a school for kids with brain injuries.
I love to read but work and kids mean that I don't always get as much reading time as I'd like. I've found the challenges to be great for expanding my reading list (not so good for my pocketbook however!) and pushing me to read new things. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with you all!

I'm new to goodreads, and thought this looked like a pretty interesting group! I read books of a variety of different genres, depending on my mood. I have just finished getting of a month-long kick of reading non-fiction books, and I'm excited to read some great novels. I look forward to starting the Fall Challenge!

There are several Erins participating in the Challenge so you'll need to decide what you want your Readerboard name to be.

I'm 25, currently living in Madrid, I have a degree in Medicine and a book addict (admiting it is the 1st sept, no?).
Edit: My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice, I read it for the first of a gazillion times about ten years ago, and IMHO you can't find a more perfect love stoy, and is so wonderfully written that it's always a delight to go back to it, over and over again. :)
My favorites are usually the classics, I'm trying to read more modern "good literature" but I never know if is worth it or not just by looking at it, I enjoy YA, and a friend recently introduce me to the Romance genera, it's fun, sometimes is good to read something that doesn't requires a lot of brain work

Welcome, Amina and Penny!
I think we're all pretty much book addicts here - just joining the group is enough to prove it! And this group won't do anything to change that. My "to read" list has expanded dramatically since I joined the group.

I'm ceinwin, 25 years old from Paris. I've discovered reading challenges on Goodreads and now I'm an addict! This challenge seems great I'm eager to start!

I'm Bev - mom of 3 (2 in college, 1 sophomore in HS), avid reader and used bookstore owner. When not working or doing mom stuff, I share caregiving duties for my dad who has terminal brain cancer. Lots of time to hang out & read on the couch next to him when he's snoozing, which believe it or not, really is peaceful & lovely. I did one of the seasonal challenges in TNBBC and loved it as a way to organize my reading. I tend to get really random, stacking up books - putting them aside when something I've been waiting for comes in, and before I know it, the TBR piles around the house are dangerously close to crashing down around us all! I'm excited to attempt another challenge!
I read a little of everything - trying to stay current with what my customers enjoy. Not a huge fan of sci fi or westerns, but just about anything else is ok by me!

I'm Janet and I live in Toronto, Canada. I'm 50, have two teen-age sons, a husband, and a terrier mix. I'm a long-time blogger who has recently started posting mini-reviews of books I've read. I'm an avid library-user and stock my holds list with everything I want to read.
This fall will be my first challenge and am looking forward to participating in what looks like a fun way to think about my books! I love contemporary fiction, have recently started reading historical fiction, and also love mystery and thrillers. Non-fiction along the lines of Malcolm Gladwell and Jonah Lehrer are also of great interest to me. Love to support Canadian authors whenever I can.

I'm April and I live in Arkansas. I'm 29, married and I have a 6 year old son. I've been on Goodreads a few months and just found this group. I've been an avid reader as long as I can remember. I've been focusing on books from the 1001 books to read before you die list so it will be fun to see how many of them I find to fit the challenge. I got a nook in February and seem to download new books WAY faster than I can read them. I look forward to knocking a few more out!
