Karla, I'm afraid not being able to get books at your library in not a valid reason for asking for repicks. You should only ask for repicks if the pick has not been released, has already been read or if you do not get four picks off your shelves. If Runell chooses to give you more picks that is fine, but she is not required to.

For everyone, here are the guidelines for the PIFM, including help for making picks, repick requests and issues with series - PIFM Guidelines and FAQ.

I'll have your recommendations up later. I almost had your post complete and lost it. GRRR! I hate that when you add a book using the search tool, the cursor is not place inside the comment box. I hit backspace because I added the wrong book from the list and wanted to correct it. Instead of starting to erase the book info, it acted as the go back button for the browser instead. Lost everything...Not happy...Grumpy...And tired. Soooo, I'll try to reconstruct my post later.

message 124: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi NancyH! Sorry it took so long, it takes me forever to make final decisions. I had so much I wanted to recommend to you that you have 4 picks for each category; 2 new and 2 from your tbr. Here we go...

Something Old
TBR: The Mane Event, if you like the humor in Snacks & Seductions you may like this author as well :D
TBR: The Prince of Tides, a classic as far as I'm concerned.
New: Vengeance in Death, I rec this series every chance I get and I'm in the middle of rereading the entire series right now.
New: Shogun Volume 1, I don't know what the "volume 1" is all about but I read this tome a long, long time ago and still love it.
The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy Vengeance in Death (In Death, #6) by J.D. Robb Shogun Volume 1 by James Clavell

Something New:
TBR: Memoirs of a Geisha, Another of my go-to recs. If you did't have it on your TBR I still would've recommended it.
TBR: The Silver Linings Playbook, I still haven't seen the movie because I'm afraid it'll ruin the book for me, a great read.
New: Making Faces, ok, so it was release in 2013 but it's just too good not to include. It's a beautifully written tearjerker that reads like poetry.
New: Cry No More, definitely not a new release but still a new author for you. This was a great read but bring out the tissues...again.
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick Making Faces by Amy Harmon Cry No More by Linda Howard

Something Borrowed
TBR: The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf, If I have a Molly Harper book on my list it'll be recommended to me without fail. And I'm never disappointed.
TBR: Hot in Here, a fun, sexy read
New: The Rosie Project, Without a doubt one of my best reads this year.
New: Faith & Fidelity, I saw only one m/m book on your lists, but based on your Read Shelf, I think you'd really enjoy this as your first foray into the genre.
The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper Hot in Here by Sophie Renwick The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1) by Graeme Simsion Faith & Fidelity (Faith, Love, & Devotion, #1) by Tere Michaels

Something Blue
TBR: Voyager, Diana Gabaldon, Nuf Said!
TBR: Gone Too Far, Suzanne Brockmann writes a mean series, you can't go wrong with her.
New: Flowers from the Storm, I absolutely adore Laura Kinsale. There is nothing commonplace about her writing or her subject matter.
New: It Had to Be You, I've yet to read a bad Susan Elizabeth Phillips book.
Voyager (Outlander, #3) by Diana Gabaldon Gone Too Far (Troubleshooters, #6) by Suzanne Brockmann Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I hope you find something is this list that you enjoy :)

I'm also supposed to be reading Armed & Dangerous this week for a couple of other challenges, but it just means I'm going to have to dive into a few of the different picks you pulled for me. I'm really excited actually. I like looking for new authors! I'm definitely going to read one of the Nalini Singh books as I've been meaning to try her stuff for awhile. I'm sure I'll also get to Fool Moon and Body & Soul since they're picked for other challenges as well. :D

YAY!!!

message 129: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Hi Vi

I hope you find something you enjoy. Sorry for the wait. Let me know if I'm totally off the mark, and want me to pick again.

Something Old: Recommend one of your old favorites, one you have reread or loaned so many times it is nearly in tatters! Also pick one of oldest books from your pickee's TBR or preferred shelf.
Mistress of Rome (The Empress of Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn (TBR)
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux (NEW)(LOVE THIS BOOK)

Something New: Suggest a new-to-them author for your pickee, hopefully one you have read and enjoyed. Also pick a new release, ideally one released in 2014.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (TBR)
It Happened One Wedding (FBI / US Attorney, #5) by Julie James (NEW) or Kaleidoscope (Colorado Mountain, #6) by Kristen Ashley (NEW)

Something Borrowed: Borrow some of the recommendations given to you at some point! Pick two books recommended to you at some point, preferably one new-to-them and one from their TBR or preferred shelf. If you can't find one on their shelves, pick two new books for them. Just make sure you pick two from their shelves in another category.

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers, #1) by Sarah MacLean (NEW) or Until You (Westmoreland, #3) by Judith McNaught (NEW)

Something Blue: The color blue, from a color psychology perspective, is reliable and responsible. It seeks peace, tranquility and relaxation. (Isn't that what we often look for in a good book?!) Recommend a book from an author who's work you consider always reliable - one that you can count on to always be good. Or you can pick a book with blue sky, water or the color blue on the cover or in the title.
Dirty (Dan and Elle, #1) by Megan Hart (NEW)(LOVE THIS AUTHOR)

2014 June PIFM - Picking Rules

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue...

Brides carry one of each for good luck. These are often given to the bride by those close to her and are frequently sentimental. This month, lets spread the love by sharing some of our favorite books!

message 135: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments ok Penney - here we go:

Something Old:
The Gamble - LaVyrle Spencer – I know you have 2 other books by her on your shelf – this is by far one of my favorites and I’ve replaced it many times
He's So Shy – on your shelf since 2010

Something New:
Sixth Grave on the Edge - coming out this week, can't get much newer than that ;)
High-heeled Wonder - new to you author - I liked the mix of mystery and romance (plus, I think its 99 cents on Amazon right now)
Southern Fried Blues – another new to you author, cute contemporary military romance (and I’m very picky about my military romances) - this was also 99 cents on amazon the other day (not sure if it still is)

Something Borrowed:
Rumor Has It – someone (although I can’t remember who…haha) recommended this to me for PIFM a few months ago – 4th in the series and enjoyable
Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes – I was recommended a couple of PIFM ago – I immediately added the rest of the series to the TBR pile (although I haven’t gotten to them yet)

Something Blue:
The Duchess War – I haven’t met a Courtney Milan book I’ve disliked yet (TBR)
A Night Like This – you gave the first one in the quartet 3 stars, but I enjoyed the 2nd one much more
Crazy Little Thing Called Love – molly cannon – quite a bit of blue on the cover

hopefully one or more of these works for you ;)

message 136: by Runell (last edited May 24, 2014 04:13PM) (new)

Runell I don't mind giving you repicks, Karla. Here you are:

Something Old: Obsidian: This series is addictive. [New to You] Or: Easy: Really good NA. [New to You]

Something Borrowed: He Loves Lucy: This was sorta-kind of recommended to me. I saw someone else recommend it to someone else during another challenge, and it caught my attention because the title playing on I Love Lucy . . . In any case, I bought it, read it, and really liked it. [New to You]

message 138: by Shelby (last edited May 24, 2014 04:59PM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Ok Arielle Rae here are my picks for you. :D

Something Old:
1. Old favorite (New) Nightkeepers Great series!
2. Old favorite (New) Winds of Fate Adore this author. This is probably my favorite of the series, but I’ve enjoyed everyone of her Valdemar books.
3. TBR The Battle of the Labyrinth I really enjoyed this series. :D
4. TBR A Wrinkle in Time It's a classic. :D

Nightkeepers (Nightkeepers, #1) by Jessica Andersen Winds of Fate (Valdemar Mage Winds, #1) by Mercedes Lackey The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) by Rick Riordan A Wrinkle in Time (Time, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle
Something New:
1. NTY Author (TBR) Pleasure Unbound (TBR) Fantastic series!
2. NTY Author (New) The Scions of Shannara (NEW) One of my all time favorite series. This is more epic fantasy, not sure if you've read a lot of them. There are three books before this series, but they're like reading the Hobbit before Lord of the Rings. You can do it (I did because I can't read out of order.) but you don't have to. If you are like me and can't read out of order, the first published book in the world is The Sword of Shannara, good but not his clearly a first novel.
3. New Release (TBR) The Professional – Love her, if you read this would love to know how it is. :D
4. New Release (New) The Will

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione The Scions of Shannara (Heritage of Shannara, #1) by Terry Brooks The Sword of Shannara (The Original Shannara Trilogy #1) by Terry Brooks The Professional (Game Maker, #1) by Kresley Cole The Will (Magdalene, #1) by Kristen Ashley
Something Borrowed:
1. Recommended to Me (TBR) - Daughter of the Blood One of my all time favorite series! Must read!
2. Recommended to Me (New) - An Intrepid Trip to Love I know you haven’t read any MM romance, and please feel free to completely disregard this if it doesn’t interest you, but I absolutely adore this book and just have to pass along the recommendation.

Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop An Intrepid Trip to Love (A Little Bite of Love #1) by Charlie Cochet
Something Blue:
1. Reliable or blue (TBR) - Kiss of Midnight Both reliable and blue…very similar to BDB books, but I still really enjoy the series.
2. Reliable or blue (New) - Crystal Singer Saw you’ve enjoyed some Anne McCaffery in the past. I found this particular world of hers to be fascinating.

Thanks Shelby for the great picks! Now, I can't decide what to read first...
I think I'll start with A Wrinkle in Time, since I already have an audiobook of it, and then I will make the hard decision of what to choose next
Thanks again! A lot of new books to add :)

Ella | 126 comments Hi Ty, here are your picks! If you need me to re-pick, please let me know.

Something Old
NEW: 1. Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James - It's a book that makes me laugh (it's always good to read it when I'm in a bad mood and I need a pick-me-up)
2.Born in Fire by Nora Roberts - from what I've seen you are not a big Nora Roberts fan, but this is the first romance novel I have ever read and the book that started my love affair with this genre
TBR: 1.Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor - the oldest book added on your to-read shelf
2.Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee - the second oldest book added on your to-read shelf

Something New
NEW: 1.Beautifully Damaged by L.A. Fiore - it's on a list about Ultimate Fighter Romance Books
2.Raising Ryann by Alyssa Rae Taylor - on the same list
TBR: 1.Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh - it's to be released on June 3rd, it's not really on your TBR but I saw you like Nalini Singh (true, more the Guild Hunter series, from what I gather, but this promises to be a good book)
2.Collide by Gail McHugh] - on your TBR - re-published this year, but it still qualifies because you haven't read anything written by this author

Something Borrowed
NEW: 1.Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep - I know you've read a couple of her books, but since you haven't given them a rating I don't know if you liked them or not, I enjoyed this one
2. Dark Protector by Alexis Morgan - a friend recommended it, and I got hooked on this series
TBR: 1.Twisted by Emma Chase on your TBR
2.Love Thy Neighbour by Belle Aurora - I'm cheating a bit again, because the recommendation was for the first book, but the way I see it, it's not that much of a difference

Something Blue
NEW: 1. One Hot Scot: A Holiday Story by Suzanne Enoch - I enjoy her books, and I've seen you like historical romances, and it has a dash of blue on the cover
2.Fury by Laurann Dohner - for me Laurann Dohner it's a reliable author
TBR: 1.Games of the Heart - Kristen Ashley - I'm a big Kristen Ashley fan, for me she's a reliable author - also this book is my 2nd favorite from The Burg'series
2.Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - the cover has blue accents and Jeaniene Frost it's another reliable author

LOL. I usually work this out on a word document and then paste, but I am in the hotel lobby computer making the picks. But I think I have it just right.

I enjoyed looking through your shelves. We like a lot of the same paranormal series, so I hope you enjoy your picks. Happy Reading!.

Thank you Diane. I love your picks...I am thinking about these:
Love Bites (Argeneau, #2) by Lynsay Sands Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill Someone to Watch Over Me (Bow Street Runners, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

Ella | 126 comments Hi Kami, can I please have re-picks for Something Old and Something New, because:

1. Can't Take My Eyes Off of You by Judith McNaught it is rumored to be released this year - but the date is not set, and I seriously doubt that this book will be released before the end of June
2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a DNF book for me (I know, I know ... how can this be, what a great book ... bla bla bla - I've heard it all before - the book just didn't do it for me)- also I'm not used to post my DNF books, so, sorry for this
3. The same thing applies to Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and a couple of other authors like J.R.Ward, Joanna Wylde
Can you please also pick some books from my posted shelf for these 2 categories.

No Kait, you don't have to wait for repicks. I'll send Tia a PM right now. I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier, I was out all day and was just sitting down to do some accounting in this thread when I saw your comment.

message 150: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Wow, Suzanne, I have never seen a TBR of that size before! I am so impressed!

Any book I could think of was already on your TBR shelf, so technically none of these picks are "new" per se. Also, your read shelf has a lot of books that aren't rated or marked with a date, so if I have accidentally picked something you have already read, just let me know and I'll be happy to pick again.

Something Old
I read The Secret History by Donna Tartt many years ago and it got passed around the office. I have no idea where it is now, so I bought a new copy to re-read. There are two books on your TBR that have been there since 2009: The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan . I've read both and enjoyed them. (Amy Tan is one of my favorite authors.)

Something New
It appears that you haven't read anything by Kelley Armstrong or Susanna Kearsley, so I'm recommending Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley . The newest BDB has arrived, and it looks like it's next for you. The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward

Something Borrowed
Here are 3 books recommended to me that I really liked:
The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt Comanche Moon (Comanche, #1) by Catherine Anderson The Tea Rose (The Tea Rose, #1) by Jennifer Donnelly

Something Blue
Two of my favorite writers are Diana Gabaldon and Stephen King. It looks like you've read Outlander, so why not try Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon . It's hard to choose a particular King book from your TBR, but I'll go with The Shining (The Shining, #1) by Stephen King . Another author I really like is Kate Morton. The House at Riverton by Kate Morton was a 5 star read for me.

Happy Reading!
