Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Maybe it's trying to think up new to you books? That might be a little difficult. LOL.

message 207: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Pam,

Thank you loads for your patience. I've been under the weather and with in-laws visiting, new house shifting, it has been mayhem. I love your bookshelf. I really couldn't control myself. I might have gone overboard with the choices. If you would like me to repick in case the picks don't work, please let me know.

Something Old:
Lord Perfect by Loretta Chase - I had to add this when I saw this on your bookshelf. It's one of my favorite LC. I've re-read it so many times that I can't even count
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - This is a new-to-you author. It's not a trad romance but a Irish fantasy. It's still one of my comfort re-reads. I love Sorcha.
Cry No More by Linda Howard - I've noticed you are lukewarm about LH but do give this book a try.

Two oldest books from your TBR:
Shaman Pass by Stan Jones - added May 2010
The Accidental Vampire by Lynsay Sands - added Aug 2010

Lord Perfect (Carsington Brothers, #3) by Loretta Chase Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier Cry No More by Linda Howard Shaman Pass (Nathan Active Mystery, #2) by Stan Jones The Accidental Vampire (Argeneau, #7) by Lynsay Sands

Something New:
The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer - SO this author is completely new to you. I had a Heyer binge in April when I read her for the FAC challenge. This was the best of hers that I read and it is going to be on my all time favorites.
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire - One of the best UF series around. The first 2 books are just ok but it gets exponentially better from #3 onwards.
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley - She's another of my go-to authors. And this one's really really good.
After the Storm by Maya Banks - From your bookshelf; released on Jan 7 2014

The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley After the Storm (KGI, #8) by Maya Banks

Something Borrowed:
New to You:
I was recommended these two books - not necessarily in the PIFM
Carolina Home by Virginia Kantra
Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson - I like western books and I was really hesitant to try this classic but it was good. I can't help but pass the rec around.

From Your Shelf:
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta - So this book made me love MM. She went on my go-to authors shelf.
Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs - Another rec that I can't remember from whom. I loved this fantasy by Briggs. And it's a duology too.
About Last Night by Ruthie Knox - This was doing the rounds in the review blogs and almost all of them rec'd. I love contemporaries and happily this worked out well for me.

Carolina Home (Dare Island, #1) by Virginia Kantra Comanche Moon (Comanche, #1) by Catherine Anderson Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta Dragon Bones (Hurog, #1) by Patricia Briggs About Last Night by Ruthie Knox

Something Blue:
Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas - I know you have another Sherry Thomas book but this one is my favorite of hers. Of course, I've re-read it too. Thomas is a very reliable author for me.
Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews - You've gotta continue this series!!
Her Best Worst Mistake by Sarah Mayberry - Another consistent author. Give her a try please.
The next two books have blue covers:
Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran - One of Duran's early books and the one that worked for me. I haven't tried her works after this book but this one has stayed with me.
Caressed By Ice by Nalini Singh - Again, you have to continue this series. #2 was just ok but Judd & Brenna's romance rocks. It's one of my favorite books in the series.

Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews Her Best Worst Mistake by Sarah Mayberry Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling, #3) by Nalini Singh

Once again, thanks for being patient with me. Happy reading Pam!

message 208: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Gigi, thanks for the great picks! I'm definitely reading Mistress of Rome (The Empress of Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn , It Happened One Wedding (FBI / US Attorney, #5) by Julie James & The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1) by Graeme Simsion next month. Hopefully.

I have a question though - can A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux be read as a standalone? It is #15 in the series which is main reason I'm hesitant to try even though I've heard about this book.

And just saying, I'm giving up on Kristen Ashely. The last few books that I've read are just not working for me. Such a pity when she has this extensive backlist that I can read. *Sigh*

I'm adding the rest of the books to my TBR. Once again, thanks for the great picks.

message 209: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments not Gigi, Vi, but I can tell you - Knight in Shining Armour can be read alone

message 210: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Oh, in that case I can add it to my TBR. I saw it in my library as well the other day. Thanks, Dee.

message 211: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i think it has some loose ties to other books in the series - but nothing that would ruin your enjoyment of it, or other books (if that makes sense)

message 216: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments Hi Joyce! Picks for you... please enjoy and let me know if I need to re-pick for you. Happy Reading!!

1. Something Old:
TBR: Obsidian Butterfly or Strange Candy by Laurell K. Hamilton – I wanted to pick Obsidian Butterfly because it’s been on your TBR the longest, but when I checked, you also had Strange Candy from the same series, so I thought I’d let you choose which one since some folks are really picky about how they read series ;-)
NEW: The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins – I don’t reread books very often, though I have a very tough time getting rid of them (thank heavens for ebooks now) so this was a hard category for me to try and pick. I decided to pick an author that I go back to over and over again, esp when I need something that I know will make me feel good – which is really the Something Blue category… but really, don’t we re-read books because we know they’ll be the same reliable feel good read? Anyway, I left my 2 favorite authors for the Something Blue category and chose my next favorite. And I have actually re-read this book – I just wouldn't say it was in tatters!

2. Something New:
TBR: Free to Fall Lauren Miller – newest release on your TBR.
NEW: About Last Night by Ruthie Knox – I didn't see any Ruthie Knox on your TBR – I recently read and really enjoyed this one by her.

3. Something Borrowed:
TBR: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill – this was rec’ed to me in March and it’s on your TBR (yay!). I actually enjoyed it more than the Sookie series, though I’ve only read this first one so far…
NEW: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – this is a rec being rec’ed by everyone it seems and there’s a reason for that. I really loved this book!! I hope you do too!

4. Something Blue:
TBR: Blue Dahlia by Nora Roberts – no one is more reliable than Ms Roberts and this one has a bonus of not only being one of my favorite series by her but also has ‘Blue’ in the title.
NEW: Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie – another of my favorite authors who never fails to entertain me (as in LOL) . This was the first book I read by her, was hooked and never looked back – pretty much glommed everything she had at the time.

Vi--
Great picks! I see a lot there. Not quite sure where I'm going to go yet but just wanted to let you know that I have read (and reread) ALL the Georgette Heyers, probably back in the late 60s and early 70s! Have not done a reread lately so may go there but there are so many good ones! The Accidental Vampire is also on my Meet and Greet so perhaps I'll start there. Hope you're feeling better and things have settled down.
