Lohengrin | 2 comments Not necessarily your favourite book, or even one you liked, or the one you consider to be the best, but one that had a real, concrete impact on your life.
I'll start: The Successor. At one point in the book, in a totalitarian regime, an architect muses about what if he's not a real artist but just using the regime's oppressiveness as an excuse, a fig leaf to hide his own lack of talent or commitment. I'm not an artist, but I can relate to that sort of conflict, and reading that helped nudge me towards taking the plunge quitting a job at a toxic workplace.
The Elimination: A survivor confronts the chief of the Khmer Rouge Death Camps . This has had a big impact on my view of various moral issues, and of politics.
The works of Lindqvist Ajvide John. Several of them changed, at least for a while, how I see something in the real world.
