Rhemat | 3 comments I have just read Memoirs of a Byzantine Eunuch and found it very engrossing. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any other works of historical fiction about eunuchs or in which eunuchs play a prominent role. They don't have to be set in the Byzantine period, any period or location -e.g ancient China - is fine.
Thanks.

Miss M | 21 comments It's been a while since I read anything in this series, but I enjoyed Jason Goodwin's The Janissary Tree where the Inspector is a eunuch (mid-1800s).

Kandice Anne Rice's Cry to Heaven is about at least one eunuch, but I think more.

Phair (sphair) | 50 comments The series about John, the Eunuch by Mary Reed should fit the bill: One for Sorrow One for Sorrow (John the Eunuch, #1) by Mary Reed

So does Pawn in Frankincense—very different time and place, but wholly enjoyable even though it's #4 in a series (no need to read 1-3 first).

I read that too, but wasn't that enthusiastic about it. How are the others in the series?

Tammy | 67 comments Court of the Lion Court of the Lion by Eleanor Cooney isn't just about eunuchs but eunuchs are a major part of the book.

I read this a few months back. Without giving too much away, a eunuch plays a prominent role.
[Note: this book is not on Goodreads, so I'm giving the link to its Amazon page]
