Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Any suggestions?

I see the little "f" under the reviews on my shelf, but when I click on it, nothing seems to post to my feed. And when I return to the review, the little f is unclicked. Do I need to give Goodreads some kind of permission on my FB settings? Any other ideas?

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments Oddly, I can see a list of books I have read on FB, and it appears that the app is sharing what I have read. But you can't see reviews and nothing ever appears in any feed that I can see.

It's weird.

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments Here's what I can see. It doesn't show in my timeline. It only shows in the Books section of my page. There's no link to the actual review that I can see. I'd like some of this info to appear on my timeline . . .

Ladyslott | 1880 comments I looked at my Facebook and it shared that I had finished reading The Birds, with a picture of the book cover. If I click the cover it takes me to the Information page about the book and I can see my rating and shelves. I didn't post a review yet so that doesn't show but I'm sure it would if I post it. I'm pretty sure you have to link your Facebook account into Goodreads, otherwise it wouldn't know where to post. Just can't remember how I did that. I'll think on it and get back to you.

Ladyslott | 1880 comments Okay - This is what you need to do:

Click on your Profile Picture on the bar at the top of this page to the right

Click Account Settings

Enter password

On the top bar of the page click on Apps

If Facebook is not enabled - Enable Facebook.

If it is enabled make sure to check off the things you want to share.

Save

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments Thanks so much Linda!!! very impressed you figured that out. I will try it as soon as I get home.

So Facebook was enabled, and I found I only added a notification when I was "rating a book" so I changed it to review - - but my ratings are not showing up in my timeline on FB. They are only showing up in the "Books" section (which no one really sees).

I must have something set improperly in FB that is not allowing Goodreads to post to the timeline. Sigh.

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction here though! Very, very helpful!!!

Ladyslott | 1880 comments Try posting a new review, I don't know how much 'backwards capability' Goodreads has; if you just changed it I don't know if it will post old reviews, only going forward.

Ladyslott | 1880 comments One more thing -

Go to Facebook; on your Timeline look at the top where your Cover Photo is, there should be a link to "View Activity Log" - click that link and to the left will be a column called Filters. At the bottom there should be a link called All Apps. Click that. When you look at that list, it will tell you everything that is being posted to FB by any app you have authorized, so post a review to GR, then go to FB check this "Activity" and you should be able to see anything GR is posting for you

You have so many good tips! You would think after using Facebook as long as I have that I would have a better grasp on its functionality. I never learn until I absolutely need to do something - - but I'm surprised I can't figure things out! Ugh.

Thanks so much for your help.

It just seems weird because I did have Goodreads set up properly, yet nothing is appearing on my timeline . . .

Off to try your latest advice!

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments So I followed your instructions, and it says that Goodreads is posting some limited information - - but it is posting it to Books and not to my timeline. That mystifies me.

Oh well, it's not mission critical, but some of my friends from college were interested in what I was reading, so was hoping to share a little more for them.

Here's what it says the app posted yesterday. It's not on my timeline. Frustrating.

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments Ok, I figured it out. So hard to find. In case anyone else struggles, the instructions are below. This assumes you are already linked to the Goodreads app. Linda provides excellent instructions for that above.

1. From your Facebook Page, you will see boxes across the bottom of your profile picture that say Timeline, Photos, Friends, etc.

2. Click on the box that says "More"

3. At the very bottom of a long list of various categories, you will see an item that says "Manage Sections"

4. Make sure Goodreads is checked off. Mine was not.

I'm pretty sure that was the problem. Guess we will soon find out . . .

annapi | 5505 comments I don't see Goodreads on mine... oh well I don't really feel like posting all my reviews on FB anyway.

message 14: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9236 comments I have FB platforms turned off, so doubt it would work. I haven't been on FB in some time; I'm waiting until well after the election.

Anita Pomerantz | 9288 comments FB still isn't posting reviews on my timeline. Sigh. It posts them in the "books" section, but I don't think anyone ever looks there. It's bizarre . . .I see other people have their post, but not sure how. Mine did it once, but not thereafter.
