Also from the summary, from what I remember, I don't think shes the actual main character. The crew on the ship meets some alien creatures that are sentient. I think doppelgangers somehow are a part of this story. The book is not a stand alone I don't think.

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 215 comments Probably a bit far-fetched, but could it be Dawn by Octavia E. Butler? The main character's name is Lilith.

When you read the book, was it new or just a new edition of an older book?

sun | 4 comments No, that's definitely not it,but from the summary it seems mildly interesting I might read it.

The author from the book I'm looking for is male and I think there's something about a void in space that they want to explore, but it's dangerous...

I think it's a new book written a couple years ago.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments I know you said the author is male and a newish book, but your description made me think of Lunzie, a character in a few books by Anne McCaffrey, including The Death of Sleep and the Dinosaur Planet. She stays young but ends up decades ahead in time after being put into stasis several times and has children and grandchildren, including a granddaughter, Sassinak (MC of the other Planet Pirate books), who is something of a doppelganger for her as they look alike.

Random (rand0m1s) | 103 comments This is not likely your book but some aspects sound so very familiar.

The Dark Beyond the Stars by Frank M Robinson

Male character on a generation ship (looking for sentient life), wakes up after an accident and remembers nothing. The purpose of the ship was to seek out alien life.

I'd say more, but I seem to be allergic to spoilers and I can't make myself type it out, even with tags. :)

Deborah Bell | 28 comments I feel like I read this book this year, or maybe last year. I can't find it in my read books list though. I'll keep looking.
