Saqib Noor (saqibnoor) | 8 comments Hi all, do any of you suffer from sleep paralysis? It occurs to me very rarely, very frightening, and often when im sleeping on my back.

I once had a sleep paralysis nightmare which actually inspired me to begin writing many years ago, which I have just blogged about but was wondering if anyone else had any terrifying experiences?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I have had it a few times and it's bloody weird.

Saqib Noor (saqibnoor) | 8 comments It genuinely is - and its so strange to hear its such a universal phenomenon, transcending cultures and eras

Roger Jackson I believe I had a paralysis nightmare when I was young (a long time ago). The only thing I remember is that I didn't like it.

I now experience sleep apnea when I sleep on my back. I had dreams where I was under water and desperately tried to swim back to the surface. I usually woke up just as I reached the surface, but once I didn't make it. Even after waking up I felt like I couldn't breath. That was not pleasant. I tried a CPAP machine for about three months and it just didn't work for me. Now I only sleep on my side and I'm much better.

Moral of the story: don't sleep on your back.

Saqib Noor (saqibnoor) | 8 comments Haha yes it's frustrating because I find it very comfy to fall asleep on my back but my wife says I snore and sleep badly on my back! I agree with your moral of the story!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) I don't think I would ever sleep with any kind of a machine strapped anywhere on me......... no. 1 requirement in my book for a good night's sleep is comfort!!!

Saqib Noor (saqibnoor) | 8 comments Yes but sleep apnoea is also potentially a very serious medical condition - and in those cases, a CPAP machine is life saving or at least massively improves ones health and sleep physiology.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) I know that Saqib - I'm a retired Nurse - my comment was just meant lightheartedly - but I am certainly aware of how serious the condition can be.

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments A phenomenon that makes me scream. I found myself shouting at the television last night because the presenter persisted in telling us that a volcano can decimate the surrounding area. Aaaagh! Maybe it's an age thing.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Maybe so. Sad when the only people who can use the language are the ancient!

These phenomenons, of course ;)
