Great book! I read this many years ago, along with everything David Eddings has written, so it was good to revisit. I'm not a real fan of Polgara, but I think that's to be expected. If I remember correctly, she becomes a more sympathetic character in the next books. All the characters are well drawn and thought out. I've requested the next books in the series from the library. THanks for choosing this book!

I'm "reading" the audio book, the only format my library has available. Enjoying it so far.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would the whole don't judge a book by its cover thing but I still had more dislikes than likes with this book... too many characters with too many different names and all the different countries were confusing and hard to follow. But the character development was good and I liked how we as readers figured things out as the main character worked through things. Not a series I have any desire to finish sorry to say

I wish I'd read this rather than listened to the audiobook. The way the narrator did Aunt Pol's voice was grating. But I thought it was a good setup for a series, and I always like stories that feature immortals blending in, living as regular people.
