H.C. Cavall (hccavall) | 45 comments Other than the obvious (write a lot and KEEP writing, even if you don't think it's good), three things jump to mind:

1) If you think something's clever, throw it out. You'll know clever when you see it. You shouldn't have to wonder.

2) If you find yourself giving long, descriptive monologues of world building, consider whether or not you can fold it into the flow of the story and make it feel natural.

3) YOUR COVER AND YOUR BLURB MATTER AS MUCH AS YOUR WRITING. Print it out and pin it to the wall, it'll save you so much heartache later =/

Hope that's informative :)

Groovy Lee As well as write, write, write, you should read, read, read, as much as fits you to learn the craft. These books were written by a New York Bestselling Agent, Noah Lukeman. I recommend them to all authors, beginners and novice.

If you read anything about improving your craft as an author, start with them:

A Dash of Style The Art and Mastery of Punctuation by Noah Lukeman
