Jesi (jesireads) | 2 comments I guess Night Circus, it's been out for a while and it's been calling out to me for months

message 52: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyforthewin) | 42 comments Hmmm. So many on my Tbr list. Maybe a handmaids tale and I am currently reading Emma which also ticks off a few more categories.

Oh yes, read it read it read it. I would love to say you won't be disappointed, but I know I can't assume you will love a book just because I did (though I really hope you do) :)

message 54: by Carolinelambie (new)

Carolinelambie | 5 comments Just started The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo! It's looking good

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I will be rereading Sphinx Sphinx by Robin Cook for this prompt. I own a paperback copy of this book that I paid about $0.50 for at my library's ex-library book sale. I've had it at least five years, so I'd say it's waited long enough.

message 56: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinajm) | 80 comments I was thinking The Alchemist, I've had that several years. But maybe I should read one of the actual books on my book shelf that I forgot about.

message 57: by Aida (new)

Aida (taffymyametalumi) The oldest book on my to-read list is Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt, so I decided to give that a read. It's a good book about a girl moving in with her older aunt after her mother dies. I just finished it last night and I enjoyed reading about how she grows up and experiences life for the first time. It felt like a real story.

Roelia (Roelia Reads) (roelia) | 2 comments Labyrinth

Finally! Time to read this one! :) Will also fit in with 'a book set in two different time periods'

message 59: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 56 comments I think I am going with the book on my Goodreads TBR the longest:Thirteen Moons. That was one of the first books I added when I joined in 2007.
I could go with the book on my bookshelf the longest: Vanity Fair. I bought this book in the late 80's when I was in high school and felt the need to read a classic. I'm not sure why I picked that one.

message 60: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 273 comments I'm reading Bridge of Spies: A True Story of the Cold War for this one. I started it last year while on vacation and got distracted when I got home and never finished it. I'm only 15% through it, so almost all of it will be read in 2017.

(That's the one bad thing about a Kindle....when you get new books they show up in the list before the one you are currently reading, so it is easy to start another book. Obviously I get distracted by shiny objects. LOL)

message 61: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Morley (beardybot) I've gone for Game of Thrones, because what self-respecting fantasy fan hasn't read the biggest thing since Tolkien?

Anna (annaholla) Sandy wrote: "I've gone for Game of Thrones, because what self-respecting fantasy fan hasn't read the biggest thing since Tolkien?"

Me. I've tried, many times, but I just can't get into them.

I haven't! I haven't seen the show either! I love fantasy, but maybe not that kind of fantasy. (Never liked Tolkien either, but I read them a long time ago ... since back then we didn't have Goodreads so I didn't know what else to read!)

message 64: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 66 comments Does anyone else sit and stare at the plethora of actual books they haven't read sitting on their book shelves and then think "Hmm, what should I take out from the library?" Reading fail!, LOL

message 65: by Simant (new)

Simant Verma (allthatissim) | 72 comments Basically, I have thousands of these :p But I'll go with To Kill a Mockingbird considering its a classic which everyone should read in a lifetime.

Marta (gezemice) | 78 comments Ashley wrote: "Does anyone else sit and stare at the plethora of actual books they haven't read sitting on their book shelves and then think "Hmm, what should I take out from the library?" Reading fail!, LOL"
All the time, lol
I actually just go by my Goodreads tbr and get it from my shelf or the library. Looking at the shelf is too much pressure, lol

message 67: by Jill (new)

Jill | 84 comments I am reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This is one of the first books I put on my Goodreads TBR.

message 68: by Elizabeth (last edited Jan 22, 2017 11:53AM) (new)

Elizabeth (supernovagirl0330) | 6 comments I read Effectively Managing and Leading Human Service Organizations since I was in the middle of it and had been trying to finish it for awhile!

message 69: by Megan (new)

Megan | 10 comments For this prompt, I chose the book that has been on my TBR list the longest, which was The Kindness of Strangers. This book was very different than I thought it was going to be (all I'm going to say without giving away any details) but was actually very good. It could also probably go under the prompt for difficult topics.

message 70: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl 20 Years Later by Emma Newman. This book has literally been sitting on my Nook and then my Kindle for over 4 years! I got the book free with my Nook and promptly forgot about it. But no longer. I'm pretty sure this is the oldest book I own that I had not read.

message 71: by Paige (new)

Paige Etheridge I'm reading Carmilla. I wanted to read it for years but had trouble finding a hard copy. I finally found that I can just read it online. Welp......the book also gave me nightmares lol.

message 72: by Emily (new)

Emily Chan | 4 comments I finally read The Game of Thrones. Now I know why it took me so long to get through it. There are too many characters and it's just not my cup of tea. I'm glad I read it though. I had to see what the hype was about.

message 73: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethiclaus) | 7 comments Finally read Outlander. No shame.

message 74: by Anna (new)

Anna (actuallyanna) | 19 comments I got the book Michael O'Halloran for my 13th birthday and hadn't ever gotten around to reading it. Finally did. Loved it! The ending was so good I almost cried!

message 75: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Belden | 73 comments I started this book about 15 years ago. It's long and I got too busy to finish it having only read about 100 out of 764 pages. Here's hoping I like it enough to finish it this time. The Broken Crown by Michelle West; book 1 of the Sun Sword

message 76: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 23 comments I'm going to read Fool Moon. It was the first book I added to my TBR list soon after I signed up on Goodreads and since I planned to follow up on that series this year anyway it was a perfect fit.

message 77: by Augusta (new)

Augusta Justice | 7 comments I read Station Eleven: a novel by Emily St. John Mandel for this prompt. I wish I'd saved it though--could have fit several other prompts, especially a story within a story or a book set in two time periods. It's a great book, though. Maybe my favorite ever.

I'm blogging about this experience. Come visit me at augustajusticewrites.wordpress.com.

This is fantastic to know. Thank you, Augusta, as I have a copy and badly want to read it but wasn't sure where to slot it in.

message 79: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments It's such a great book.

message 80: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 2379 comments Originally I was going to surf my extensive personal library for a classic I had always meant to read or had only read a couple of chapters, like Dicken's Bleak House, Sterne's Tristram Shandy, or Hugo's Les Miserables. Ultimately two things happened: I decided to see what were oldest listed on my GR's TBR and a book with a royal blue cover surfaced in my living room winking at me and begging to be read. Turns out that book jumping up and down seeking my attention was also the oldest on the list!

So I just finished A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Enjoyed it and loved moving it into my 'read' list!

message 81: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 159 comments I've been wanting to read It by Stephen King for years. I actually bought the book about a year and a half ago and am finally going to read it for this challenge. It's so thick, so it makes it a bit daunting. I have a whole shelf of TBR books and luckily a few more fit into challenge prompts.

message 82: by Monica (new)

Monica (monica020) | 61 comments The Firm

At my current reading pace, I calculated that it will take me 33 1/2 years to read through my TBR list which has been building for years. This was one of the books near the top of the list.

I'm always calculating that, too! I want to see if I'll get to read them all before I die. Problem is, my TBR list grows ...

message 84: by Monica (new)

Monica (monica020) | 61 comments Right!

message 85: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Since it was added to my TBR in 2009, I think this one qualifies:

The 39 Steps by John Buchan

This book was written when threats to a nation's security were so much simpler.

message 86: by Emelie (new)

Emelie Östbring | 3 comments Finally reading Jane Eyre! I've wanted to read it for so long, but never got around to it for some reason. Only read short extracts for schoolwork, but now I'll finally read the whole thing!

I hope you like it!! I find it's always fulfilling to finally get around to reading a classic, even if I don't like it much, I still feel good about finally having read it.

message 88: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 21 comments I hope 15 years counts as a pretty long wait. . .

Cardcaptor Sakura, Omnibus 1

message 89: by Erika (new)

Erika wickwire For this one I chose a book called Gemini by Carol Casella. When I added it to my TBR list a few years ago it was because I'm a Gemini and I thought that would be cool to read a book called Gemini. Anyway, I never could find it at the libraries and finally one day I saw it at the dollar tree and I bought it so I can get it off my list.

message 90: by Pioup (new)

Pioup | 54 comments I read Huis clos, suivi de Les mouches (No Exit, followed by The Flies) because while it wasn't the book that's been on my TBR the longest, I dit borrow it from a friend several years ago (oops). No I can give it back!

message 91: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (dgamv) | 25 comments I read The Secret Life of Bees for this one. To be honest, I wish it had stayed on my TBR list. I just didn't find it engaging at all. I still finished it, but I gave it at best 3/5 stars.

message 92: by Elena (new)

Elena Maddox (lanie7311) | 10 comments Where'd You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple. Done and done! (And recommended!)

message 93: by Emanuel (new)

Emanuel | 253 comments All the books I read, so far, that's been on myTBR list for way too long , and others that I'll read too.

message 94: by Elyse (last edited Apr 24, 2017 11:02AM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) I decided upon And Then There Were None. It's been far too long on my shelf and in my TBR and it's so short, I'm going to read it this year.

But the oldest in my Goodreads TBR is Starling, added in January 2012.

Read this in high school and am thinking about re-reading but in audio form!

Vanity Fair was so hard to read!

I love sitting in my library and gazing at all my beautiful books! My favorites AND the ones I haven't read yet! Plus the many in my wishlist on Overdrive and the thousands on my Kindle. Yes daunting but so endlessly exciting!

message 98: by Keri (new)

Keri | 43 comments I really like memoirs, but always put them to the side when finding one I am interested in. I finally read Dear Mr. You by Mary-Louise Parker. I am happy I did. I really enjoyed it. It touched on so many topics that I could relate to, both serious and funny...how we get to where we are. How to find where we need to be. Very happy to have read it.

message 99: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (katmoonchild) I have always wanted to read this book but never really did it. Once I heard that there would be a new series on Hulu however, I knew i had to. The Handmaid's Tale

The series is great so far :)

message 100: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Presotti | 23 comments The Chomsky - Foucault Debate: On Human Nature has been on my to-read list since August 2012, but I finally read it and it was great.
