Michelle Yelton | 13 comments My pick for this one will probably be Victoria Aveyard's King's Cage.

That and Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs! They come out the same week, I believe. I can't wait! (Especially for the Bishop but the Briggs is a close second.)

I just finished The Wicked City by Beatriz Williams and I don't really recommend it. It was okay, but the characters didn't really grab me, a lot of plot lines were left hanging at the end, and just in general this was not nearly as good as the one other Beatriz Williams book I've read (A Hundred Summers). But if you like Williams, this might be a good choice.

I discovered that it is set in 1924 & 1998, so I ended up using it for the "two time periods" category, and I'll read something else (probably A Separation for this category.

Keri | 43 comments The Girl Before by JP Delaney. The Girl Before

Emanuel | 253 comments my next read will be Envelhenescer de Pedro Chagas Freitas, came out this january in Portugal.

message 57: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 164 comments Playing with Fire: A Magical Romantic Comedy was just released on January 31 and let me tell you, it is a FUN read. It works for several other categories, too.

Pseudonym - author also writes as Trillian Anderson
Mythical creatures - I could make a list, but it might take a while. A few are unicorns, gorgons, and phoenixes.
A book with a subtitle - As made obvious by the way she titled this one, there is a subtitle
Interesting woman - The main character, Bailey, is interesting in many ways, particularly in her world due to her immunity to magical substances, if you'd prefer to use fiction for as many prompts as possible.

Again, super duper recommend it. It's funny, it's light-hearted, and it's snarky.

message 58: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Robinson | 19 comments So glad they have this prompt. I preordered Kings cage (Red Queen #3) and was wondering where it would fit. Well, here it will go.

message 59: by Carolinelambie (new)

Carolinelambie | 5 comments I've decided on A Separation by Katie Kitamura sounds intense

message 61: by The BookSnom (new)

The BookSnom (the_booksnom) | 1 comments hey, quick question, i want to read a book that was published last year, but in my country it wasn't yet published, it will appear in April. Does it count? thanks xx

message 62: by Lynette (last edited Feb 06, 2017 08:09AM) (new)

Lynette Caulkins | 92 comments Bronze and Sunflower by Cao Wenxuan The U.S. translated edition is coming out in a couple of months for this really fantastic "children's" book. Wenxuan won the Hans Christian Anderson Award, and it's easy to see why. I received an ARC, and this one's a keeper. Hoping more of his works are translated into English. This will also work for "other ethnicity" if you're not Chinese.

Keri | 43 comments I just finished The Girl Before by J.P. Delaney. It was worth the read. No complaints, not super predictable!

message 64: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 12 comments I read The Wicked City by Beatriz Williams. She is sometimes hit or miss, but this one was a hit.

message 65: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (dgamv) | 25 comments I pre-ordered King's Cage and was so excited to get it last week! I finished it last night and counted it as my published this year. Now I'm just anxiously waiting for the fourth book to come out!

I read A Separation this weekend. It's surprisingly short, and surprisingly riveting, considering that nothing much happens. I don't usually enjoy this type of book, but I enjoyed this one.

message 67: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 25 comments Just finished The Fire by Night by Teresa Messineo for this prompt. Could also fit the "set during wartime" prompt. Army nurses in WWII, first novel, well-researched and well-wriiten, but gut-wrenching (isn't every war story?).

message 68: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 268 comments I will be reading This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel. I was able to acquire an e-book from a friend and love to read this new adult book dealing with LGBTQ issues.

message 69: by Megan (new)

Megan | 10 comments I read Secrets in Summer which I received from Netgalley. It is set to be released in May of this year. It is about a woman who lives on Nantucket year-round and all of her summer neighbors who are renting that current year. It will make a great beach read!

message 70: by Badseedgirl (last edited Mar 03, 2017 05:11PM) (new)

Badseedgirl I just finished A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn for this challenge. This is book 2 of the "Veronica Speedwell" series. I have to admit, I have a bit of a "girl crush" on Veronica Speedwell! This is a great series.

I think you're being incredibly optimistic. I honestly don't think we'll see Doors of Stone, The Winds of Winter, or even The Thorn of Emberlain this year. :(

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) Michelle wrote: "My pick for this one will probably be Victoria Aveyard's King's Cage."

I read King's Cage for this one. Annnnd it took me almost a month to read. It was a drag of a book for 3/4 of it. :(

I *love* this series!! I haven't read her Lady Julia Grey series yet and I need to.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) Poca wrote: "hey, quick question, i want to read a book that was published last year, but in my country it wasn't yet published, it will appear in April. Does it count? thanks xx"

It seems the consensus is go with when it's published in *your* country.

message 75: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 21 comments I was so excited to snag this book for my birthday.

Dragonwatch

message 76: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Heaney | 210 comments Her Every Fear - Peter Swanson

message 77: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 71 comments I just read Lucky You. I hated it!!!!

message 78: by Novalynda (new)

Novalynda Black I read Ragdoll by Daniel Cole for this prompt. I liked it, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Ragdoll

message 79: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just finished A Darkness Absolute by Kelley Armstrong for this one. It's the 2nd book in the series and was much better than the first.

message 80: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Presotti | 23 comments I'm filing The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas for this prompt and I highly recommend it.

message 81: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments I read Six Wakes for this and I really enjoyed reading it. A light read, for sure, and there are a few plot holes you could drive a spaceship through, but it's a lot of fun. It's a murder mystery in space with clones - and a lot of the story is explained in flashbacks, so it would work for the story within a story prompt as well.

Amanda - I read The Hate U Give as well this year and I can't recommend it enough. Really good book.

message 82: by Deb (new)

Deb (debsd) | 17 comments I've read review copies of some soon-to-be-published books which I can recommend:
Roses of May - the sequel to The Butterfly Garden - quite different to the first in the trilogy but excellent.
The Betrayals - I very much enjoyed. Really well-written with great observation and insight.
Fierce Kingdom - felt briefer than the page-count suggested, well worth going for it in one sitting.

message 83: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinajm) | 80 comments I went with Caraval, by Stephanie Garber. it was also recommended by a librarian in one of the other threads, for people who liked Night Circus. I started and finished it yesterday, a little confusing at times, but I enjoyed it .I didn't realize it was also the first of a series.

message 84: by Yvette (new)

Yvette Roberts | 18 comments Beren and Lúthien was published on June 1st. I'm using this book for the prompt.

message 85: by Kate (new)

Kate Williams | 0 comments I was planning on using Firebrand by Kristen Britain for this but now that I am about to start it and notice it's length I might use it for the Advanced Challenge prompt of more than 800 pages. Hmm.

message 86: by Daniplx (new)

Daniplx (danipx) | 12 comments I read Beartown! It was a great book!

message 87: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 14 comments I just read "the Identicals" by Elin Hilderbrand. It is the perfect summer beach read.

message 89: by Sandy (new)
