Oops I took this as you thought you couldn't read it unless you had an actual book with a red spine, not that you weren't sure which books had red spines. so sorry! lol

I may just wander the stacks at the library until I see an interesting book with a red spine. Unless my overcrowded shelves at home give something up first

Kerri | 56 comments I'm using my current book for this challenge. The Red Pyramid

message 55: by Sofie (last edited Dec 28, 2016 12:55AM) (new)

Sofie (sostorm) | 56 comments Some books I've got with a red spine in my bookshelf (not all of them have red covers and not all with red covers has red spines):
Lost Souls - Poppy Z. Brite
The Little Stranger - Sarah Waters
The Quantum Thief - Hannu Rajaniemi
Spy the Lie: Three Former CIA Officers Reveal Their Secrets to Uncloaking Deception - Philip Houston
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
The Uncommon Reader - Alan Bennett

Nikki (auntieknickers) | 31 comments I was surprised how many books (other than Christmas books) do not have red spines on my shelf. There are some Library of America books that do, but they nearly all contain multiple books, so instead I'm going to (finally) read Out of the Garden: Women Writers on the Bible, and then I can give it to my daughter-the-minister!

Sally (whatsallyreadnext) (whatsallyreadnext) | 4 comments I might read this for the book with a red spine: Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

message 58: by Hilary (new)

Hilary Ledford (haledford) | 9 comments The Last Time I Wore a Dress (great memoir)
Allegiant
Push
Little Women
Girl in the Spiders Web

Debi Dreese-Hoch | 15 comments My copy of The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Nighttime has a red spine.

Siobhan (notphonetic) | 53 comments Feedback by Mira Grant has a red spine

message 62: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Tupaea | 41 comments I picked one off my shelf for this as the easiest way to know the colour so I'm reading The Crimson Petal and the White

Also since it probably the longest book in my list I've decided to tackle it first. About 1/5 of the way though and very much enjoying it so far!

Your Red Rising has a red spine?? Lucky! My paperback edition is black with red letters :( Thinking of using that one for the Debut Novel task instead!

Pioup | 54 comments I'm quite annoyed because I've wanted to read Wolf Hall for a while, and having it fit a category would be a great motivation, but the spine on my edition is mostly black with only red text... Trying to decide if that counts for me or not...

Here's are some books from my shelves that qualify (and that I liked) (and that aren't by John Green since those are already in the thread)
The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su
The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet
Almost Like Being in Love by Steve Kluger
Almost Like Being in Love (I have this edition, the cover is yellow but the spine is red)
Deathless (Leningrad Diptych, #1) by Catherynne M. Valente
Deathless (also good for the mythology category)
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
The Secret Lives of Princesses by Philippe Lechermeier
The Secret Lives of Princesses
(I have this one in French, but I assume the spine is red in English too?)

And the other ones are mostly Vintage Classics ^^
(trying again with the covers this time...)

Cara (cgroup) | 12 comments Looking through my pile of unread books, I found that a book that I bought on a whim at a used book sale also has a red spine. Since I think it will be easier to cover the used book sale book (I go all the time), I'm going to be reading A Century of Wisdom: Lessons from the Life of Alice Herz-Sommer, the World's Oldest Living Holocaust Survivor. It also fits my tentative theme of reading about underrepresented, mistreated or unheard voices -- this one is about a holocaust survivor and has been surprisingly uplifting because of her attitude about everything she's been through in her life.

message 66: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelbenoit) I'm reading Love Warrior for this prompt! I actually just saw that it had a red spine in the book store and then went home and downloaded it to my Kindle. It's an Oprah pick, and I try to read them when I can!

message 67: by Lori (new)

Lori Beekman | 2 comments The Aviator's Wife

Jenna | Bookmark Your Thoughts (bookmarkyourthoughts) I know most people have already started but in case someone still needs an idea, Omens by Kelley Armstrong has a red spine (little bit of black too but it works in my opinion ha-ha). You would've think it does because the cover is not red at all but the spine is. Her books are great, especially if you enjoy gothic fantasy but modern.

message 69: by Chantal (new)

Chantal | 2 comments My copy of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott has a red spine! Great read for writers and really anyone!

message 70: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenbrace) | 4 comments I've just crossed this prompt off my list for Book 2 of the challenge. I chose The Diabolic by S J Kincaid. Very fast paced, I read it within four days (I think), would have been less if I didn't have to work for a living... Pesky job!

message 72: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyforthewin) | 42 comments I really liked the Swans of Fifth Avenue by Melanie Benjamin It definitely has a red spine

I read that book last year with my boyfriend and absolutely loved it! It is a great read!

message 74: by Krista (new)

Krista | 1 comments I just started this prompt my third this year...and I'm reading Behind Closed Doors. Have heard good reviews and can't wait to get started.

Caity (adivineeternity) | 164 comments Krista wrote: "I just started this prompt my third this year...and I'm reading Behind Closed Doors. Have heard good reviews and can't wait to get started."

I'm reading this one for a bestseller in a genre I don't normally read (psychological thrillers, which I avoid for a reason). Sure enough, not even 100 pages in and it's already messing me up.

I'm very decided on Hag-Seed for this task, though. Excited to read it.

message 76: by Keri (new)

Keri | 43 comments I read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris.

message 77: by Jenn (last edited Jan 23, 2017 01:19PM) (new)

Jenn (jenncompton) | 36 comments I went to there library today and just grabbed a book with a red spine so I'm reading The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer.

message 78: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin (kirsts) | 7 comments Does anyone happen to know if The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin has a red spine? Thanks!

message 79: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 56 comments I'm readingThe Swans of Fifth Avenue for this.

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I'll be reading Maestra Maestra by L.S. Hilton for this prompt. It's a library book that I borrowed before I knew I would be participating in this year's challenge let alone that one of the prompts was a book with a red spine.

I just read March: Book One yesterday - had no idea it had a red spine! (Although it WAS mentioned here before, I just missed it.) I didn't intend for this to be a Challenge book, but I ended up using it for this category. Because, why not?

This book would also work for:
book with pictures
author of color
multiple authors
two time periods

message 82: by Pat (new)

Pat Bryan | 61 comments I completed this task with the appropriately red-covered "The Russia House"by John le Carre.
Excellent story,too!

message 83: by Krisha (new)

Krisha | 12 comments Eden Hill
Eden Hill by Bill Higgs was a very pleasant read and it has a red spine.

mandy crandale | 8 comments My copy of The End of Mr. Y and my copy of Gods Behaving Badly both have red spines and I loved both of them if people are still looking....

I'm reading Poppy Shakespeare for this, as have been meaning to get to it it for ages and mine is red - yay! :)

Cerise Canzius (cherryseven) | 10 comments For this I'm going to read The Circle by Dave Eggers . I saw the trailer for this movie and just knew that I had to find a way to add it to my list

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

Hiw about...Eldest the second novel in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

message 88: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Presotti | 23 comments I'm filing The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement by David Brooks for this one, since the edition I read has a red spine.

message 89: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (4thhouseontheleft) | 58 comments I'm using The Underground Railroad for this prompt, even though the group read has it lined up for a different category.

message 90: by Katie (last edited Feb 10, 2017 03:39PM) (new)

Katie (ktquiet) | 21 comments Fear and Loathing in Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson

Bee Season by Myra Goldberg

The Hour I first Believed by Wally Lamb

Sula & Jazz by Toni Morrison

message 91: by Lara (new)

Lara A Precious and Grace, the latest book in the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency series has a read spine and is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

message 92: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (dgamv) | 25 comments I picked up Skipping Christmas from my school's library. Our copy has a red cover and spine. I love John Grisham, so I figured it would be an easy read. I'm slugging through it though, to be honest. I'm glad it's short.

message 93: by Linda (new)

Linda McLaughlin (lindamclaughlin) The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory has a red spine.

message 94: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Belden | 73 comments Looking in my bookcase, I could have chosen Lord of the Rings, which I love and have read multiple times, but I don't have time. So I chose The Haunted Bookshop by Christopher Morley. The spine is a faded red with the title in a tan box. I'm counting it as my book with a red spine.

message 95: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 178 comments For this prompt I read Dorothy Must Die. I did not realize it had a red spine until over halfway through. I was so excited because I hadn't seen many other books with red spines that interested me. This was a pretty good book (I gave it 4 stars) and would suggest it for anyone who enjoys fairy tale retellings, YA, or just for an easy read.

message 96: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Winzer | 5 comments I'm going to go with Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" for this one. Its been on my shelf forever waiting to be read and it has a red spine!

message 97: by Tina (new)

Tina | 1 comments Kelly- People's History is great! Probably best read along with another book- it's a series of essays, so not great for continuous reading (my opinion, anyway).

message 98: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 12 comments I wandered the fiction section at the library and grabbed one of the first red-spined books I saw-- This Must by the Place by Kate Racculia. It was interesting and good, and not something I would have picked up otherwise. I do the challenge to get myself to explore books not already on my TBR list so this was great for that.

message 99: by Emanuel (last edited Feb 19, 2017 06:00AM) (new)

Emanuel | 253 comments I readA informacionista, it has a red cover picture that extends to the spine.

message 100: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rhartz) | 25 comments I read Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

I had been dying to read it and when I finally picked it up at the bookstore, I was thrilled to see it had a red spine to fit this category.
